We needed a classical reverb to complete the range.

Stagespace is an algorithmic reverb with some special twists and features.
It doesn't use randomization in its networks, just sounds smooth.
It was designed to get various kinds of effects, from rooms to huge spaces.

It completes the range: Verbtone (plate algorithmic), Necklace (spring algorithmic), and coming soon Stagespace.

This is a simple comparison between the glassy Verbtone and Stagespace. No EQ, no processing. These are mp3, better quality demos coming soon.

This is the GUI of Stagespace. Some more audio soon...

A preview of the parameters:

- Low and high smooth filters
- Color (general reverb character)
- Hi frequency dampening control
- Predelay, with optional feedback for special delay/verb settings
- Reverb envelope, from normal/exponential to full with steep fadeout
- Density fading in and general reverb density
- Detuning (this isn't chorus), with some weird feedback modes (the guitar example above use this one for a depth effect)
- Stereo spread (widening)
- Multimode modulation (pitch, phase, amplitude, pan)
- Stereo width control

Includes several algorithms (Hall and Delay in this version) and several stereo modes (split stereo, stereo->mono->stereo, true stereo, follow-the-source).

We needed a classical delay based reverb...

I really love this sample, it's real with some breathing, too
Quite some space by Stagespace...

A very nice demo by Patrick Haupt (thanks!)

This is the instrument: Ten strings guitar by Martin Bretscher

Dry sample (Suite Espanola)

Through Stagespace

(stereo track, split stereo mode, long reverb, no envelope, a bit of detuning, a bit of pre-delay, a bit of widener)

It really feels like im sitting on second row watching him play
I can see the old oiled wooden floor and the red curtains. Amazing!

That's a nice description :)

With these examples I never got the feeling of the whole room. When I close my eyes it always feels as if there is some kind of room but I never can really visualize it. It's always dark there and I see a bright light shining onto the artist. Is that intentional? I would like to get a clear feeling of the room and want to see the room when I listen. Not always but for certain things that is a necessary thing for me.
I hope that this is clear? I want to give an example. I experienced that in 1990 on the Frankfurt Musikmesse. These Messe halls are acoustically suboptimal, for sure. I was at the TC Electronic booth and grabbed a pair of headphones to check out some reverb thing they were showing. I was scared instantly and pulled those phones of my head and looked around! The room simulation was soooo good that I was shocked instantly. This quality of room simulation is one of the benchmarks now for me. Now if something tells me "Hey, this is not just reverb but a room!" I want to see and feel the room. At least when I close my eyes. :)

BTW, sometimes your audios refuse to play. Firefox tells me in the lower left corner "Waiting on www.sknote.it...
I had that several times in the past.

Well, we should understand the real target set while making the demo. Sometimes it is a "rounding" of the source, sometimes is to let us hear the naked tail after critical (for an artificial reverb) hits, sometimes it is to emulate a real ambience. Verbera is my favourite for "room" and "ambience", because it is really transparent. Stagespace was built to get the features of delay-based reverbs for huge spaces or long tails, but it happens to sound smooth on rooms, too.
If hearing a real ambience is the goal, we could make a focused test :)
What I'm liking so far is that it doesn't have evident "color", even though it doesn't contain any randomness (for what it matters)

Post

Yeah. You said rooms and huge spaces so I thought this is aimed for some realistic modeling.
Maybe you could show other aspects of Stagespace? :)

Post

I'd try to get a realistic space, looking for some more audio :)

I wonder how much real spaces are needed in some mixes like in pop music, where often reverbs are everything but real.

Post

I don't really understand that as your GUI suggests realism.
But OK, if Stagespace is not aimed at realistic room and huge spaces simulation then I'm already covered very well with VRoom which does unrealistic rooms and huge spaces much better then what I heard from your audios. IHMO of course.
With plugins like a reverb it's very hard to predict if it will suit my taste without demoing it. But you know that problem.
