I am starting from scratch knowledge-wise and have a couple of beginner questions.

I have a 13 inch Macbook Pro, (2.4GHz dual-core
Intel Core i5), 4 GB Ram, a Roland D-5 keyboard, and a midi interface.)

So then, to use Zebra 2 I will still need some sort of host software? Is this something like Logic Pro 9? What is recommended?

Also, is my Macbook Pro underpowered for Zebra 2?

Many thanks in advance.

to use Zebra you don't need Logic Mainstage for example is enough. You could use just any DAW software available. Some are free. Check this forum to get further information.

Your laptop is more than you need to run it.

Correct.

That strongly depends on your typical workflow, and you probably yet have to develop one (or even several). For example, scoring orchestral music for a movie is quite different from performing a techno set in a club; while Zebra2 is equally suitable for both workflows, your ideal host environment may then well be quite different.

Logic is fine as an all-round package, and its price has just been dropped, too. But before parting with any cash I'd definitely try a few different ones to see where you 'feel at home'; many allow you to try before buy (for example: Ableton Live, Reaper). Also, since you're on a Mac, I would also definitely check out Numerology.

No. Zebra2 is very efficient, CPU-wise, and that MBP is pretty decent, so your system can easily handle a whole bunch of them at once.

(But, beware of messing with the Diva - an entirely different story. ;) )

Success, hope you'll enjoy making music as much as I do!

Your computer is enough.
You already have Garageband which is all you need.
If you never used a daw before then GB is the best for now.
Use that for a while, then determine if you need more.
