Studio One doesn't really perform great for me. My rig:
Intel i7 2600k at stock speed
16GB RAM
Win 7 pro x64
Traktor Audio 2 with latest drivers

I added instances of Diva x64 in Studio One v2.0.3.17345 x64 at 44.1kHz/256 samples and let each instance play one sustained note of the default preset (which runs in "great" mode) in a loop.

At 16 instances I get considerable buffer underruns.

The same setup, but now even at 128 samples buffer, Reaper is *laughing* at me when running 16 instances that way (14% FX CPU use).

32 instances? No sweat - 28% FX CPU.
64 instances? Easy - 68% FX CPU.
80 instances? Doable - 85% FX CPU. Some glitches when doing some other stuff in the GUI.
At 88 instances it finally gets too much :-)

With multiple instances (at least until 4) my Core 2 Quad Q6600 usually got no problem too as each Core seems to use one instance but Urs already tried to do multi core support for a single instance which would be very helpful too.

At the moment when the CPU maxes out in Ableton Live only at the Windows task manager only one Core is used so far.

At "Divine" quality most pad sounds (3 notes chord) are unusable on my CPU (except if i play very slow...). Usually i use the "fast" quality setting.
Same results at Reper 4 as soon as CPU reaches around 23-25% (One Core used).

My configuration:
- Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU (4 x 2.4 GHz)
- 4 GB RAM
- Window 7 32-bit SP1
- Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP with latest driver
- Ableton Live 8.2.2, Reaper 4 32-bit

Number of multiple instances in't all that interesting.

How many notes of a cpu intensive patch can be played on a single instance of Diva is the nub of the matter.

Exactly what i wanted to say...

Would be great if Urs could add the multicore support for single instances in the future.

Shouldn't be CPU-intensive (IMHO) so people with older/cheaper systems can take part.

Suggestion
Let's all use TEMPLATES / INIT Alpha, with "Voices" set to 16
(also turn master volume down to about 10)
Test all accuracies!

OK?

Divine = 10 voices
Great = 11
Fast = 16
(Draft = 16)

New iMac i7 at 3.4 MHz. Reaper or AU-Lab, 24-bit

Ok using INIT Alpha i can get 6 voices from overclocked (3.5 Ghz) x4 phenom.

Thanks for all the input on this post :) been very helpfull. Have now lowered to 44k-24 bit from 96k and getting much better performance in devine mode so i can hold off upgrading for a while as the system is not that old.

Oh and happy xmas me  and everyone else :)

So Urs got his wires crossed somehwere?

Was under Reaper, might have been with CPU-cheaper modules. Forgot to mention the host is AU-Lab - appears to be v similar CPUsage in Reaper.

Hi Howard,

i tried to use your configuration: TEMPLATES / INIT Alpha preset with up to 16 voices and volume turned down.

My configuration:
- Diva v1.0 (full license), Windows 32-bit version
- Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU (4 x 2.4 GHz)
- 4 GB RAM
- Windows 7 32-bit SP1
- Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP with latest driver and 512 samples buffer
- Ableton Live 8.2.2

I used a fresh Live project with a single instance of Diva and no extra processing.

A) Results in Ableton Live 8.2.2 with 3 notes chord, percentage from holding the chord up to playing it very fast:

1.) Draft: 14-18%

2.) Fast: 35-44%

3.) Great: 58-72% (few audio dropouts)

4.) Divine: 79-118% (audio dropout all the time)

Around 2-4% more when i layer up to 3 additional instances.

B) Maximum of voices (without audio dropouts):

1.) Draft: 16 voices

2.) Fast: 6-7 voices

3.) Great: 3 voices

4.) Divine: 2 voices

With respect to the OP, the question of how many voices of the most cpu intensive patch a new system can handle has more relevance (it's unlikely that anyone will be thinking about buying a 4 year old machine to run Diva).

Draft: 16
Fast: 16
Great: 7
Devine: 5
