Diva versus Ace

A while ago Urs posted that Diva would kind of be a subset of Ace, a kind of starter Vst for beginners. I'm paraphrasing because I don't want to search through 5000 postings to find the quote. I might be hallucinating.

On the other hand as I try the released version of Diva, I'm wondering if that's changed. I'm not sure you could create every preset in Diva by using Ace. My first observation is to note that some of the Diva pads had fairly along attack times. Maxing out the attack in Ace didn't seem to give me the same sounds.

What do you think?

I think you are hallucinating. So follow the paisley piglet to the sky circus... :clown: ...sucric eht ot telgip yelsiap eht wollof oS... ;)

Actually I think he said TyrellN6 was a subset of Diva, and ACE was a subset of Berlin Modular.

Dunno... Diva has evolved quite a lot. Could be that I mentioned something like that, but it would have been more than a year ago.

I think it was months ago. It might of even been on the original teaser page. I remember Urs describing Diva, comparing it to other of his VSTs and then writing something like "Do you need Diva?..."

Anyway, thanks for clearing it up. It is very tempting.

Ha! I'm not hallucinating. Well maybe I am, but not about this.

"Do ACE/BM users need this? - Nope, not really. Do Zebra users need this? Nope, not really. Diva will be a subset. Merely a beginners synth. A small little gem with hopefully a lot of personality!"

This is from the bottom of Urs" first post about Diva on KVR. I think it really must have evolved from the original concepts.

Maybe I need some Q-Tips but DIVA sound way too good to be a subset. Today I just made music only with it and when I fired up ACE and Zebra I went right back to DIVA warmth and depth and inspiring sounds.

Well, let's see what the next revisions of ACE and Zebra put on the table ;)

Right on!

Merry Xmas! :)

I'm not sure but I wouldn't be surprised if URS was comparing it feature-wise, not sound-wise? For example, DIVA CAN sound more like an Alpha Juno with its oscillators, while Zebra only gets close and that's it (from what I understand)? There's no complex routing/sequencer/... options like in Zebra (that's why I love DIVA).
Cowbells!

I'm under the impression that DIVA is the testing ground for features that will eventually show up in Zebra and that it's unnecessary for Zebra owners. That said, I bought DIVA and am selling Zebra, simply because DIVA does what I need NOW and without all the extra features in Zebra that I personally don't need.

Let me be clear. It looks like Diva turned into something substantially more than was originally described by Urs. In no way am I suggesting that this is a problem :)

And I really like it.

but i have zebra and ACE, haven't mastered one tenth of them and bought DIVA because it's christmas. now what?! no time for reading the internetz first to know what not to buy. :x well i guess that's one "pling" more in u-he's company cashier and that's alway a good thing future-motivation-wise :)

and one more thing: i am a synth beginner and just about to accept that fact in order to get back to making music again. so if it's easier than ACE and has some stuff tyrell left out (poly AT support) then that's a big plus.

i just wasn't capable of making a bass like in tyrell in ACE btw. the first tyrell bass preset mixes wonderfully with an upright on top (although i wish the upright player would play the synth bass herself instead of me doing ALL the work). i hope it's in DIVA, too.
