Diva Rides Alone

22 Instances of Diva
Effects:
Voxengo Marvel GEQ
Molot Compressor
Yohng W1 Limiter
Martin Eastwood MVerb (return used sparingly on a few tracks)
(EQ on all tracks, some compression and limiting, EQ, compression, limiting on master)
Most patches original except Howard's "Strumpet", Michael Kastrup's "Oboe" and "Cello", and a tweaked TOC's "Hurlitzer Phase".
I take special credit for the train whistle and mellotron :-D

Christmas vacation bought me some time for an entry. And yup, I did it again - took a fine sounding analog synth and cast it against type in another 5/4-time-signature-late-60's-movie-theme. This time I think it's a Western, circa 1968.
@Howard - I think I want Hans Zimmer's job :D

Good luck to all!

IIRs - Division

A dubstep / brostep tune in a vaguely Skrillex style.

27 x Diva
19 x ReaEQ
6 x ReaComp
6 x Voxengo Tube Amp
2 x Voxengo MSED
2 x IQ4
1 x 5ORCERY
1 X Kjaerhus Classic Delay

Here's the Reaper project, but you will need a fast machine to play it: this is the first time I have ever needed to use the freeze function on my i7 machine!

Great synth though, sounds amazing

I Don't think amp sims are strictly legal, as they fundamentally change the sound. I abstain from using them anyway... V'ger?

Its not actually a guitar amp sim, it just does gentle saturation: if that breaks the rules I can try to re-work it tomorrow..?

doesn't break any rule imo.
as long as no major distorion is added making the sound unrecognizable should be fine.
recording out of an amp does not alter the sound much (for sure not "fundamentally" unless there's something very wrong with the amp!)
unless significant distortion is applied in the chain an amp is just an amp (adds some saturation)
recording synths out of amps with a mic was a very common technique during the 80 for a more "live" feel .

Post

Yes agree with that, saturation plugins like Voxengo Tube Amp are fine as long as they are not overdone to distort beyond recognition like you say.

And cheers for the project file IIRs, very sporting. Not often we see those shared here. 8)

just saw urs' post about two days left on the diva demo
and on this competition
so i have spent the evening putting this piece together:

http://soundcloud.com/reflektor-6n6p/auld-lang-syne

my PC is old so i've had to render everything as i go
only running one instance of diva at any time
this is not finished but i may not get any more time so i'll post anyway:

home made sounds:
2 kicks
2 hats
one clicky sound
one bass sound
one drone sound

preset:
SG Chica Go - arped + messed with a bit...

plugins:

vladgsound - molot
sonimus - soneq
bootsy - prefix (to gate the hats - to save me going back and making them again) + epicverb
audio damage - rough rider
aarto vaarala - kirnu 1.1 (arping Chica Go)
George Yohng - W1 limiter (never used one before but everyone else's trax are so loud i thought i'd try it)

looking forward

Cool. After what Soundcloud does to our sound I guess a little tube love is no big deal! :-)

Also I just put up another mix of Krampusnacht, although I am HATING it after it's "soundclouded" so I may just take it right back down (it is not anything major anyway, just playing with the balance)

Hi,

here is my first attempt to an OSC:
http://soundcloud.com/fromdws/find-me-chase-me-love-me

I tried to stick to the title I choose "Find Me, Chase Me, Love Me" and made a kind of movie music based on it.

- Ableton Live
- 13 x DIVA
- TAL reverb + tube
- MDynamics, MLimiter

All sounds designed by myself, including the kick (which I find awful...)
I found myself have a very hard time to make a good one, so I just made a bad one...
Interested if someone have good kick patches to share!

hmmmm

there seems to be some real confusion about effects, and seems some people have still gone outside the boundaries (though, i don't believe knowingly)

the idea of 'available to all' in the effects rules means that the effects used need to be cross-platform....this would be quite easy to implement, all needed is a list of plugs that can be used...

also, some have used daw-specific effects (also not cross-platform) which is also against the rules...this supports the point above

i would love to have been able to use the 'channe' eq' on my daw, just because i prefer a graph for visual cues (recording mixing on earbuds and laptop speakers, so need yo cut visually sometimes)...seeing as it is a straight eq, it shouldn't be ruled out..i mean if others can use reaeq, what's the difference ??...as it is, i've made do with soneq, and don't see why others shouldn't also be 'confined' to this, as the idea of these osc's seems based on the concept of a level playing field, and i have access to only a couple fo the tons of plug-ins that others have used

please don't get me wrong, none of this is sour grapes...nor, am i arguing for anyone to be disqualified (there is too much confusion surrounding this, to apportion blame)...i just wish this to be nailed down properly

never thought of that
quite happy to go back
if i get time
think that's right..

i really don't think that's necessary, but i do think that we should set up a definitive list of effects for fairness in future

because we aren't allowed to use anything that is too 'creative with the sound', i think no one should have a problem using from the same stuff...you wanna cut/boost, use soneq...you want a 'character' compressor, then 'roughrider etc...TAL - delay III and his reverbs are great, and are available to all

i'm really not accusing anyone of trying to get an 'edge' by using certain effect; clearly it's about what people are used to...i'm just trying to minimise the variables, and making it about the synth in question

i understand that most osc's are windows only, but i still feel the same effects list should be used, ruling out any further confusion

once again, i don't feel you need to change anything (unless it contravenes other rules, and certainly not on my account)...
