My question is can Diva be praised without having to compare it to hardware in order to validate the great sound it has? I think it sounds terrific but the need to compare it to hardware....

If hardware does not sound better why is it always the benchmark that we use to measure software synths?

Where something is a more-or-less explicit emulation, comparisons with that which is emulated are unavoidable.

But it does sound really good, so, maybe...?

I have a few real analogues here, Arp2600, Minimoog, SH101, + a pile more....+ I also do have a pile of VA's as well...

- Dmitry Sches Diversion
- Audio Damage Phosphor
- Cakewalk Z3TA+ 2
- Image-Line Harmor
- discoDSP Corona
- G-Force ImpOSCar 2
- XILS-lab Synthix
- Tone2 ElectraX
- Hamburg-Audio Nuklear
- Diva

maybe some additional one or two I forgot.

Is there something hmm unusual ? Hmm Nuklear ?
Is there something solid, good/great product ? ElectraX (digital world), Synthix (analog world)
Is there something unexpected ? well, for me it was Diversion

But which one synth shines when it comes to sound quality ? Diva. Other synths are so 2011, Diva is the only one which (in the terms of sound quality) fits 2012

and Im not a fanboy, im actually angry that beta virtually killed my desktop core2duo which (heavily overclocked) is good enough for everything but not for sound quality I guess hehe

who knows, maybe it's time to stop buying plugins and buy another computer or do some very serious upgrade.

Nice...I think it makes more sense to compare it with other software synths and not hardware (that is just my opinion - no offense

).

How would everyone compare Diva to the other software instrument that everyone agrees sounds outstanding - Omnisphere? I know there are differences but based on similar analog type sounds....

Yes, MiniMoogs are like guitars. Pick up one Strat and compare it to another one. Both are unmistakably Strats but different.
All MiniMoogs I played myself sounded unmistakingly like Minis. Same for all Minis I saw other people play or the ones that I heard on certain recordings.
And the opposite happened with that Synthex emu. It simply didn't give me that WOW factor the Synthex I played and the other ones I heard people play. The real one is a monster while what I heard from the emu is rather tame.

I use One Ping Only as my benchmark of superior sound quality.
We can clearly hear.

I think it 'becomes' a benchmark when someone wants to compare the sound of a VA with the analogue synth. There can be some hint of nostalgia for the real analogue synth compared to what is perceived as an authentic VA-or not. Just depends.

I'm more eclectic in that it matters not whether it comes out of my Minimoog or a VA of it...they are sounds that I can mange using onboard..or-off board effects....
