Time to get your Receptor a last minute Christmas present.
Through Jan 6 GSi has VB3 on sale for 36 Euro (normally 49). This came out to just under $50.00 US via Paypal.
This a fabulous Hammond B3 simulator with overdrive and rotating speaker well implemented, and most Receptors already have a demo version installed. All you have to do is enter your name and license code and you're good to go. There are some nice improvements in the new 1.4 version, I'll try to do a user-install on that later.

I'd like to take advantage of this VB3 sale.
Has anyone installed this on their Receptor 2?
Does it unlock the 'Demo' version that came with Receptor?
Does it upgrade to the current version? (I believe one that came on Receptor is an older version)
Or would it be a complete new install?
Thanks,

On my Receptor 2 Pro it works without problems. It is a great plugin, highly recommended. You can overwrite the DLL with the 1.4 version, no problem. I think that you even upgrade to version 2 when released.

I'd agree with this - I find VB3 has a bit more "balls". Certainly a great plugin!

I have used VB3 for 2 years, and the guy who made it (Guido)has been more than willing to listen to my comments and suggestions. I really look forward to next big upgrade (which is now used in the Hamicord keyb)
I still think it is one of the best B3 simulators in the market, the price is almost ridiculously low. I love the punch and realism below 150 Hz, footwork on the pedal and the bass sound is next to the ol' beast itself. NI B4 and others don't come close to the warm and realistic sound Guido has created in his algorithms (remember this plugin use no sampling)
My only problem is that there seems to be a memory leek somewhere, as receptor gradually use more CPU with the VB3 (after about 45 mins +). In the end VB3 stops producing sound, but all the other midi stuff seems to work (like operating all the controls). Guido thinks this is due to the proprietary Windows setup in receptor Linux system and an incompatibility with VB3.
I also notice that many subsequent midi commands stalls the VB3 for a short period of time. I also experienced sudden "pops" like the percussion effect going off occasionally (play keys with all drawbars = 0 with percussion on). But that turned out to be a midi control setup conflict with the Voce controllers.
I would really appreciate if others could report any similar problems with VB3.
I have a setup using two VOCE drawbar controllers (one for upper and one for lower), and two midi keyb controllers (61 key Novation SLremote as upper, Deopfer LMK2 as lower, and one Crumar octave bass pedal). I use a standard volume pedal as swell controll. I use a K&M 18810 stand modified so that the two keyb have no space between them, like the manuals on the B3.
The VB3 has (next to a fantastic C3 choral scan vibrator) also great implementation of the swell, like it should be (expression, not volume) - the B3 increases higher frequencies when the swell is at max, not so much the volume.
I control all the B3 stuff like perc, vibrato etc with the SL remote. The Sl remote also controls all the other Receptor parameters with a breeze, for all the rest of the plugins.
I also use a Leslie 142 (small 122 with the 122 amp). Receptor can't really drive the 122 amp properly. So I modified the 122 amp to boost the signal making it scream like the real thing.
Yeahh

I really like VB3, but it crashes occaionsally... and therefore I can't rely on it for live use. Do you have any work arounds?

To be honest, no I don't have that Phil. Did you notice any special pattern that makes it crash? And, what happens when it crashes? Is it just the sound that stops working? Is is after a certain time after loading the VB3? What version of Receptor and VB3 is installed?
Whenevr I reinstalled VB3 I made sure that directory was completely empty.
What I have learned to do live is to reload it at every available break (after 30-40 mins).
Gigs without breaks are harder. I wish there was a superquick way to reload without using the receptor interface (like a midi sysex )

What do you mean "directory completely empty?"
I installed VB3 on my PC and then copied over the folder to my Receptor. Is there any other way to install VB3?
I have Receptor Version 1.9 and VB3 1.4.
VB3 just craps out after about 20 minutes and when you go into the GUI... it is blank!

I'm using VB3 version 1.2, I think the last version Muse supports, and that has been stable on my Receptor 2 ver 1.9. At one point I tried to upgrade to VB3 1.3 but had problems with crashes so I went back to 1.2. It's a shame that Muse doesn't look more closely at keeping this plug up to date. It is the best B3 emulation available IMHO - or at least that I'm aware of - haven't played them all.

Or a lot of other plugs (for ALL their customers, not just Receptor 2 customers) It's another reason the Receptor loses out to the laptop on both stage and studio for me now. It's permanently racked in the home studio, and even then it hardly gets turned on anymore.

well, sometimes I have seen files been left un-deleted in receptor folders/ directory after an uninstall
>I installed VB3 on my PC and then copied over the folder to my Receptor. Is >there any other way to install VB3?
Yes, by dropping the windows setup file into the "intall" folder of receptor, and go to setup and run install...if I remember correctly this is how I always install plugins in receptor
just copying files from a windows PC doesn't seem proper (but I admit that this occasionally may work for both dll files and other content, especially AFTER a plug has been installed in receptor the "normal" way)
> I have Receptor Version 1.9 and VB3 1.4.
Ok, so we have the same versions of both, btw mine is a receptor pro 2
>VB3 just craps out after about 20 minutes and when you go into the GUI... it is >blank!
Hm, that's even worse than my case, I suggest you do a complete re-installation.
BTW, many thanks to TWB for your observation and comment about v1.2, good to know that this is stable. It's going to be painful to go back, I have to reinvent a lot of my mapping, and throw away one drawbar controller due to less flexible midi implementation, and inferior pedal sound.
Lets keep this post about VB3 only and not so about the frustration of Muse in general, shall we? It's the only way we can exercise a clean way to resolve specific problems. We do that by a applying a "scientific" approach, and not by making too many political comments, even if we share the same frustration :) Our goal is to try to convince Muse to give a little more priority to popular small company products, so NI and other big guys don't eat up all the cake.
So the more posts from people about VB3 specific encouragements and needs for attention and support will help us keep alive products from people like Guido too. Because this marvel deserves it. Muse should know that the VB3 so far is an unchallenged plugin of the B3 (and its sisters) IMHO. Failing to give support will eventually make people give up the receptor entirely just because of that, unless someone can show me something that matches this sound. Who wants to go live without a proper organ sound? Not me, never. I rather go back to carry that 'ol 400 pounder.
Anyone else out there pro VB3 ?
