Whatever Michael Kastrup does with Zebra is so far away from "flat" that it can't be measured how far away from "flat" it is. Likewise for Howie's efforts (the Science soundbank is wicked!).

I think Diva sounds awesome, but I think I would have to choose Zebra over Diva. Perhaps it doesn't sound as "analogue" as D, (I've never owned an analogue synth btw) but Z does sound freaking amazing imo. There are so many amazing presets for Z and the texture and feel of playing it is a thing of beauty.
I actually have to confess that I don't own either ....yet. I'll probably have to go with Diva first due to the the introducrory price. The presets included in the demo are extremely good. Clearly both are TOP freaking synths. :shock:

Well, I'm not asking anyone to agree with me, but that is my conclusion as to why I don't like it's sound. I do find it rather 'flat' sounding. I've demoed it and wanted to like it so many times.

I agree with you... though I would not use the word flat, but neutral. It has a clean neutral tone which is one of the reasons I like it. That means I can shape it in many ways. It is not an analog emulation that has its own unique character in that sense the way an MS20 has. I can understand not liking it judged on those terms. But it has its own qualities and beauty when appreciated for what it is.

If I had to choose one it would still be Zebra.

Sure, Diva is exceptional (my favourite synth of the year) but people need to remember that Zebra still sounds sublime and is the synth I always end up using after wasting hours in other synths trying to find something that fits into my mix.

Zebra will always be my goto for years to come. It's THAT good.

took me years to like Zebra. me too. With the third party banks i enjoy it now.

To be honest i think my happy middle ground is ACE.
just to clarify. it isn't only the third party banks I like. I love Howie's patches especially since 2.5...although I must admit the two Big Tone banks are by far my favourite (and actually Transmission, which sadly I think was Ben's last bank for Zebra?)

I suppose somehow. I always feel a little dirty when I use a cliche wobble bassline. ;)
Thing is, I produce Deep House. Experimenting in other genres can be very fun. But Trance? Not even once :D

You always read about Massive being the synth for dubstep, but Zebra works just as well I think. XMF sounds so much nicer than that dull Massive filter!
