The important thing is that Diva is a big step in the right direction.
If there is a gap between analogue and Diva, I don't hear it, but then I don't have access to real analogue synths outside of samples and songs.
It does sound better than any samples I have, and it does do a good luckyman.
That's enough for me, and I believe most people, who won't be buying a real minimoog,ms20,jupiter this year.
Same with digital over film for photography. Digital is just better. There are still some areas where film looks nicer, but there are areas where digital walks all over film. Color accuracy in my point and shoot under a variety of conditions is far superior than film ever was with the best possible equipment (I worked as a pro photographer for years). The film purists always focus on the fewer and fewer areas where film has an advantage and ignore that areas where digital is way better. Same with analog synth purists who get obsessed with elevating the sonic characteristics where analog still has an advantage. You know the argument is over when an analog purist is talking about some obscure quality they get in a particular situation with their Minimoog that Diva doesn't do.
In Diva I can set voice stacking to 3 and still have polyphony. I could never begin to do that with a Minimoog. The features, convenience and flexibility of the modern softsynth far surpasses the minor sonic advantages of analog synths over the latest offerings like Synthix and Diva. And the softsynths have their sonic advantages too, not just convenience and flexibility. The argument is over just some people haven't realized it yet
No, the argument it is not over and you ruin your point by making such an immature comment..."nonpartisans" have made the most honest statements in this endless debate. It depends on the situation, cost, what your track needs etc.
Real analog sounds absolutely terrific and is incredibly fun to use.
There are also many softsynths that also fit this description.
If you want a Moog sound in your track it is usually best to use a real Moog synth. If you want the DSI, Nord, Access, etc. sound it would probably be best to use the real synths. Obscure or not if I hear it and am composing and making music that is ultimately what will affect the quality of the music itself. It is true that all listeners will not be able to hear the difference but I am sure we all (as we can all tell from the terrific support from Diva fans) are inspired by the tools that we use to create with!
If you want digital, VA sounds etc. you have a huge range of choices in software and there are many affordable and outstanding ones to choose from. Everyone really needs to relax and try to be a bit more honest and objective!!
