- Zebra "Deluxe" (or "Zebra Pro"): A special version of Zebra with all the Diva filters which can be chosen as modules. So you'll have all the filter types currently existing, XMF, VCF, FM ... and then ... DIVA!!!! So you'll have DIVA TRIPLE VCO, DIVA DUAL VCO etc... to be chosen as modules.

Price: 299,-
Upgrade from Zebra: 99,-

;)

From an end-user POV, this would be heaven. From a marketer POV, I dunno, U-HE might be shooting it's own foot, since Zebra Pro would be competing directly with it's own Diva.

Anyway, just dreaming out loud :)
I'm actually thinking a bit into that direction, however in a slightly more complex and exciting way (and less expensive maybe)
This thread evolved quite a bit so excuse me if this was suggested before.

Urs, how about individual modules that we can buy to run inside Zebra?

Reasons why?
- it's in "that direction"
- it's slightly more complex
- it's an exciting idea (at leas IMO)
- it would be more affordable and ppl would get only what the want/need.

Added: and to avoid any unwanted complications (with modules missing from certain presets for example) Zebra could come with all modules aboard working in "player mode" (presets will load module settings but won't offer that much or no extra functionality if they aren't purchased)

please don't do individual modules for puchase. for those of us who are preset users that could quickly become a nightmare.. also for those who sell presets.

whoops.. didn't thought about that. :D

Well, how about if all the modules are pre-installed and work in "player" mode?

And if you want to access additional functionality you would buy the module! :)

that would work with me.....personally I am buying anything u-he comes out with...so in the end I will be getting whatever he is selling :-)

Well.. to be honest, I didn't really like the idea at 1st, but if Urs wanna go in that direction, I would sure prefer Zebra as a big "toy chest" with lots of cool modules to choose and play with rather than "Zebra Pro" or "Zebra XL" ... or whatever..

IMO, it's kinda annoying to have all sort of "not really necessary" options or ramifications for the sake of marketing, especially if they are changing all the time or if the main ideas are a bit rushed to begin with.

There won't be a lesser and a better version of Zebra. But we might make a hard cut from 2.x to 3.x, where 3.x won't be fully backwards compatible, and therefore we would maintain Zebra 2.x for a few more years. As in, you can still have Zebra 2.x installed next to 3.x, and it's still available, but new features would go into 3.x

We could clean up some clutter, we could renovate things from ground up and what not. Just don't know if we get there this year.

That sounds like a very great idea :)

If it's come to new synth without compatibilities with Zebra2, it's much better to make complete modular, like Clavia Nord modular G2, with all zebra/ace/diva modules available. Maybe with switch to semi-modular Zebra2 interface option mode for those people, who don't want to go into total modular madness. The most important thing - must be user-friendly interface. I still preffer nord modular approach over Reaktor.
I believe it's not problem for U-He. :-o

I actually prefer the Zebra2 interface the way it is, more or less. Of course there is room for improvement, given the insight of several years of subsequent development, but in general I find the current interface to be very clean and elegant. Don't get me wrong, I've been a Nord Modular user since the beginning (both G1 and G2), but part of Zebra's power is how much can be accomplished without chaining a ton of modules together. As was noted previously, a single Zebra oscillator module can get extremely complex!

Granted, I've only just finally started playing with the Zebra demo and bought Diva, so I don't have a long history with the project. Nevertheless, I'm very impressed, and I do agree that making a clean break with v3 would be a great opportunity.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

I'd have to go with DIVA. I've been trying to get certain sounds for years in software that DIVA can finally nail, would never give it up. Zebra I only like for certain things, mainly arps and cold pads.

Post

Diva every time, i just cant get on with the workflow of Zebra, nothing to do with the sound quality.
