Well...What bugged me really was that Shortcircuit 2 never progressed to a usable state, as it was somewhat promising. I think it had been a year or something since I had paid for Shortcircuit 1, so I considered the investment in that old news already. (Luckily, I would have been royally royally pissed off had the freeware announcement appeared a month or something since I got the license.)

This Bitwig thing just doesn't seem right to me. They have been allegedly developing something for years and years but nothing concrete has come out. (The mess of a screenshot and the generic sound example they posted don't mean anything.) Who is paying for their wages and office rent etc? Are they just running some kind of scam on tax payer or venture capitalist moneys? Why would I be interested in a Reason-like rack of synths, anyway? (That I think is the latest speculation on what the Bitwig thing is going to be.)

I don't know about you guys but I'm not waiting around for yet another DAW to "start" and be missing a bunch of stuff and then hope that when I'm in my 80's or 90's it might start maturing into something worthwhile

How bout this though.......a loop mangler like live with melodyne ARA that works as a plug in inside your current daw.

Maybe this is why there has been no public betas, primitive RCs and such. The DAW market being what it is, it seems a developer would need to at least release something highly stable *and* snazzy as all hell.

A new, so-so DAW prone to problems isn't going to go far at all unless it has at least one inspiring aspect. Given how many DAWs exist and how they've developed, even features that are promising might not be enough.

I imagine if the Bitwig team have the luxury of time, they're studying the market and trying to create something highly appealing.

Right now there is absolutely no information as to what this might turn out to be. Anyones guess is as good as the next person, and the track on SC feels like a joke, tbh. In the best of worlds they will come up with something stellar, or maybe they want to do a Duke Nukem 3D for the DAW-world.

I'd be interested in a host that really focused on Midi... expressive midi playability... and was fast, stable and efficient.

^ I do hope there is a focus on MIDI... <snip> ...something new with MIDI phrase handling would be very cool.

+1 to both sentiments. IMO, this is the neglected part of the market and there isn't a daw available that addresses music composition from this angle. There are a ton emulating the "muti-track tape recorder paradigm" though ( and I'm not waiting for another one of those).

They dont need to be.

Unlike Korg/Roland/Line6/... they are selling software, many of their potential user base will probably be online during this period anyway, looking for this kind of news and those dont need others impressions because they can try, this way bitwing can offset the expenses and logistics work doing a better online marketing and/or giving some more private hands on with hand picked journalist (eg cumputer music).

I always wondered about the tape paradigm - we're stuck with it because that's how we started - like the Windows/Folder office paradigm. Abelton broke out of that a bit (Session View, etc.), but I'd give anything for just a better piano roll, midi-mapping, etc.

Hope it's not an iPad/tablet "DAW". Not that there's no room for that, but seems like a waste of talent. So much work in plug-land is making use of processor power, memory, etc. for desktops and hi-end laptops. I like the idea of a table as a controller, and for fun on the go, but, Gorillaz aside, its form factor means it will probably continue to be behind tech of larger formats for some time to come.

Just saw this too, hope it's something more.. Will be a little disappointed if it's more or less same as Ableton. Though the automation and clip within clip thing like logic's folder looks sweet
