It's still vaporware as long as there's nothing to run and try outside their company.

But I suppose at this point it does look like they have something going on for real. The price point is going to be interesting. If it's more than 200 euros, it'd better be damn versatile and good to be anything I'd ever consider.

"Multiple audio events per clip" could have been great, but it doesn't look like based on the screenshot on the website it's going to be real polyphonic containers of audio clips, just that you can put the clips side-by-side and move them together. So, nothing new and exciting in that...

Seems great, really great just need:

1) Automap and launchpad suport
2) user friendly copy protection system
3) Good factory content and plugs (reason 6 level)*
4) USER FRIENDLY PRICE

This make me remember the cubase to S1 diferences

First reaction is that the plagiarism here is shocking.

However, this could be a great product in its own right. Let's wait and see.

Also, surely Live 9 will be announced at NAMM or at least this quarter...?

THEN... we can compare and contrast them more fully.

funny shit. I signed up for their news letter when the site went up so I hope the beta is first come first serve.

This is looking right up my alley and after version 1 looks like when stuff gets really good with the modular system.

Looks like those boys have been hard at work cleaning up the code they wrote over at ableton, and threw in a few new tricks that we've all wanted.

Some interesting things, mainy of which will almost certainly be in Live 9, like clip automation recording. The idea of generic tracks is cool, bouncing in place and having midi or audio in the same track. Looks like it also has a max for live type environment built-in (after v1).

What will really be of interest to me and might allow it to eclipse Ableton for myself, would be how it handles instant mapping/automap and what it has for macros. The ableton macro system is great with instant mapping, things are so easy to control from hardware and keeps things grouped in 8's. If Bitwig did something similar but for example with more macros and included buttons, and allowed macros on a group track to be assigned to sub tracks for example, that would be something. Hopefully they put a lot of thought into this. Although from the screenshots, I don't see any kind of macro device at all.

My other question would be how it handles freeze/render of clips. If it can bounce in place and undo to midi at any time, like Studio One, I'd be sold.

I'm not so sure that I'd set the expectation bar too high though. Pics and YouTube vids are nice but to be fair, this is version 1.

Well, becouse one coding guy at BitWig designed Surge, I thing the'll be not much worry about the effetc and instruments quality.

Also, CEO (and may be one other guy, didn't research it properly) are fugitives from Ableton, so if they brought patents with themselfs, Ableton could be even more dead then it was before ...

God knows if development of BitWig didnt actually couse development stop in Ableton. It kinda matches timwise...

Btw: Yeah, worried about macros too.

Farley I wouldn't go too conspiracy crazy at the moment, I'm sure Ableton have something coming up, its not like they are the lightweights of the DAW world.

That said... I really like how this looks; I'm a big Renoise fan and this GUI looks kinda similar to me, Live never clicked with me but this just might.

Looks nice, but it will all come down to price and stability. I would like to see AU support.
I think the idea of having a powerful synth system integrated into the DAW is a very clever idea. Sort of taking the best parts of Reason and M4L.

This is the biggie. I guess it will be equal to or less than Ableton Live. Could be much cheaper. I would suspect though that..

a. Considering how long this has been in development and how many wages need to get paid or costs covered it might not be too low a price.

b. The main target market surely is Ableton Live users (initially) so I think BW will probably price BWStudio close to Live 8's price (but not likely Suite 8's price).

Lets see.

I'm going to guess $500 and no segmentation of product. I'm going to guess it's all in one for that price, and that includes the modular and everything.

It will be interesting to see what happens for sure, and that UI is right up my alley as well but it's like the rest of you guys say, Live is fantastic.

The fact that it is unrivaled until BW Studio has come is another matter.

Ableton is not stupid, Max4Live is going to be tough to beat. The modular looks awesome in the screenshot, but it also most definitely won't be as capable or supported/prolific of a community as MaxMSP is.

Where Ableton could really succeed is by taking the racks concept further, much like Kontak with it's custom scripting and UI. Unfortunately though Max4Live ticks that box (but only for stuff we build in it) - for example imagine creating a Live Rack and giving it scripting/GUI, then you have a commodity market inside the product and so a dependency is built on it.

So far I've yet to see any M4L devices being sold EXCEPT for CSound which is much more robust with max objects and libraries to support it.

Interesting times indeed!

DAmn straight. They need to do what folks did when FCP X hit the street and adobe offered crossgrades. That would be really smart.

Ableton is way to overpriced anyways. Instead of offering the 25% sale that last 1/3 of the year just drop the price.
