This is the biggie. I guess it will be equal to or less than Ableton Live.

I hope it will be more in the Renoise/Reaper/Ext2 price range (49-79$/€).

I have Live (and Reaper), so i could not justify spending the same price on another host.
But if BW is cheaper than Live's upgrade price, i might consider selling my Live licence and get BW instead.

I am quite happy with Live, but the price is a bit high and the timeline mode is not that great.
I am happy with Reaper, but it doesn't have Elastic audio and no live mode, so a cross-over product would be welcomed, if it is reasonably priced.

Depends on who they consider their initial audience. If its Live users then quite a few will miss having either Operator, Simpler, Drum Racks and they will have to address that in short order (it looks like they have addressed some of that in the small teaser vid). However, for the new users there will be a void there if they don't have something in there ready to go. It will not be at the level of Reason 6 IMO. That's quite a mature product.

With that said, one of those guys whipped out Surge and Shortcircuit. I think they have skills to address the content issue.

Oh, no : this is i guess my only concern with Live : i was very happy with Live until v6, where they started messing around and lossing time with 3d party content, sample packs, instruments, where i was only expecting a host, stable and reliable.
The world is full of plugins, instruments, samples and loops, so i don't expect to pay for something i don't need in a DAW when i already have everything i like as far as vst and Wav is concerned...

For the most part I agree sinkmusic. However, I have to admit that I really like The fact that Simpler and Drum racks come stock in Live. Yet I hope that the wigs make a lot of that type stuff a la carte.

I'm definitely excited to try this... but I'm definitely not excited about switching DAWs. I've spent more than 5 years getting familiar with Ableton Live and more than 10 years with Pro Tools. I would have to run into some pretty big show-stopper issues in Live to make the switch at v1.

I started checking out Live's demo at v2 but didn't actually start using it on projects 'til v4. I plan on approaching Bitwig the same way.

Haha... developers know that if anything is "elastic", its our budgets. This thing (if it works as advertised) will probably sell like hotcakes.

The general idea of "competition for dollars" is a general myth when so many people own 5-6 products. The real competition is for "upgrade dollars".

With hardware, software upgrades, and anything really I usually wait.

That being said if the 1st version is cheap enough (since it will not have the modular system), i might just give it a try to get in on the ground floor and really watch a product evolve which I've never done.

Will have to wait for BETA time to see how I feel. If it runs better than the ableton 8 garbage and has all these improvments that I want it would be nuts not to try cause I'm sure it will feel like Live (almost in a creepy way)

If you check the screen shots on the website you will see that they already have a FM Synth (like operator), DrumMachine (like drum rack) and a MiniSampler (like simpler). They have most of what Live has and more. I really like the included modular system, the per note automation and meta data in the browser.

I would think that BW are now giving it some serious consideration. They could charge a similar price to Live 8 (not Suite) and at least come in cheaper than one of Live's offerings (especially if BWS is not quite as full featured)

OR...

Go for a more agressive campaign and price it sub $99 for a time at least to draw in a much larger group of users much faster, who would have considered upgrading to Live but might invest in BWS instead.
This would also draw in other interested users who are waiting for a relatively low crossgrade intro price from any other DAW.

BW will have to work pretty hard to get over the initial zero user base size and grow it quickly. So maybe a very low initial price could be the ticket. I would say most users of DAW's (Live or otherwise) probably do not need BWStudio at this time, but would give it a very long look and likely invest if....it was on offer for a low sub $99 introductory price.

Also the little "drum synths" seems fun. Could be cool to use as base and layer with some sample stuff. I so hope they copied whole racking feature including macros.

About the price: It depends on how much they want to use Ableton's srewed up situation...

I can't even tell you how excited I am

I "followed" this project since Claes first mentioned it way back in the day on the Vember Audio forum (Seems to be a super nice guy by the way).
And this looks seriously promising.
I always found the concept of Ableton Live interesting but the programm itself never really clicked with me. If this is half as streamlined as Claes other products it will be really great.
Much to early to say that yet of course.

I was trying to see if they had the macro's like live because that makes life so much easier when using keyboards with eight knobs. I could not tell.

They need to get Hanz to do an APC 40 hack for bitwig!?!

Bitwig (!/?)
