Exactly. If he wasn't involved, I'd be in "pfff, cheap copy of Live" group of people, but he is. That makes it really promissing...

If built in synth sounds as Surge, I'm not complaining at all.

I dunno. It looks clever enough and unique enough to fall squarely into the "impulse buy" category for many so it will all be based on initial list pricing. Once that happens (the impulse buys) and the subsequent Internet discussions from users / buyers begin, you'll start to see some traction.

These things sell themselves really. All they mostly have to do is not suck.

BWStudio at this time but would give it a very long look and likely invest if....it was on offer for a low sub $99 introductory price.

Yeah. I imagine that the S1 Artist $20 deal probably made PreSonus a small fortune. If the Wigs do something like that at NAMM with "pre-buys" for $99 or something ... they'll make some cash and also get some strong practical exposure on release when all those people get their grubby hands on it.

Honestly... if the thing actually works as advertised, it can't fail without some serious management mis-steps. The other goofy stuff about "taking the crown" and all that is mostly irrelevant.

Slice the pie.

If I were them I'd announce the full expected list price at NAMM, sell it for 25-30% list to anyone willing - for the week of NAMM only - and also bring all of those early buyers into the beta program and give it to them right now.

They'd probably make 6 figures.

Looks a bit like a Live clone

But running also native on Linux is a deal.

Seems there are some developers working for a DAW company making later their own stuff. Same with Wolfgang Kundrus and Studio One (formerly Steinberg developer).
The guys behind Bitwig are IMO also German based and formerly (or are always) Ableton developers? So it's a bit similar than with Studio One...

Anyways, only from the video and the info on the website it's a very interesting new DAW.

Oooh, nice. Well I guess that just leaves one small issue for me. Midi routing. I hate that Live combines the multichannel midi output of plugins into one channel. That and the inability to route midi cc data directly from one plugin to another track so it can drive parameter adjustments. To accomplish both tasks requires the IAC buss (on osx).

Whats the full story behind Bitwig? Why exactly did they leave Ableton and who actually left?

For me, the item in those screen shots that creates the most interest is the "soon to come" modular environment thingy. If they find a way to allow the inclusion of 3rd party instruments and effects then I will have finally found a next gen succesor to Traction's racks.

Hmmm, I miss modulation button on reverb and more waveforms at FM synth, but other than that it looks absolutely terific...

Well, since only half-assed implementations (or within otherwise useless(*) applications) of this kind of a thing have existed (in Ext, Reaper and Logic, for example), I wouldn't consider those to have existed at all. BitWig could have had a great chance to nail it for their app at this stage. It's likely too difficult to add later in the application life cycle...But maybe there is some hope, who knows...

(*) IMHO and all that of course.

I don't need a new DAW but let's relax a little bit and remember that whatever it is, it's a 1.0 and it certainly won't be the bees knees out of the gate in every regard... so let's not criticize too much or too early.

We should collectively celebrate their achievement, whatever it is, at least until we can actually try it. This - writing a brand new DAW from scratch that may have a real place among the higher level offerings out of the gate ? (we'll see) - is no small feat.

Plenty of time to pick apart the subjective flaws later when we get a demo.
