Yeah, i hope Lennard does have something cooking though. He's only one man i think but he turned out a great synth in Sylenth1.

LennarDigital is located in the beautiful landscape of Lochem, the Netherlands.

Lennard we know where you live. To me being part dutch it looks like a nice neck of the woods.

Hope you enjoy your work and life. Yes we know you read the forum in KVR. It;s not like you're totally ignoring us from your tax haven in the Bahamas or Cayman Islands.

Cheers

This sounds a bit like a threat. ;)

The man is a obviously a coding genious, but a Silent One.

If you have read all of this thread and all previous ones related to sylenth and Lennard you would know that I am non threatening and rather good at taking the piss if you know what I mean govenor.

I'm sure he would understand my tongue in cheek attempt at humor.
Besides its really tough over the internet to talk so loosely.

Absolutely, It would be terrible to have bought such an awesome synth as Sylenth...
Either you're taking the piss or perhaps you can enlighten us with your go to synth and the genre which you prefer.

cheers
'Twas a pisstake, obvious one I thought :)

Sylenth IS my go-to, ever since I got it in the post-Mac version GroupBuy. Never understood the vitriol that gets dished out towards the dev.

You talk about your attempts in being funny and overlooked my smiley. This is what I call limited perception.

The rumour I heard was the source code for the project is lost forever.
If that romour is true there will never be a true update for Sylenth
other than basic manipulations that can be carried out with tools
such as Ida.

Could be true could be bollox ...luckily Sylenth is still the go to poor mans
Trance synth.

I experimented with synthetising percussion recently and Sylenth is still amazing even for that. That lowend tightness is unheard since then. Even Zebra can't do such a defined lowend. And low CPU usage means you can rack dozens of instances and do dozens of percussions... It still is really amazing synth.
Even out of precs, still perfect bread and butter subtract ...

Heh.. I was just thinking the other day while emailing Lennard that maybe the reason he doesn't respond is cause the source code got lost. I hadn't heard any rumours though.

Then I thought about it, and concluded that even if this was the case, it would not be hard for him to reverse engineer and retrieve the code. I'm not a programmer, so don't really know how it works. But the license agreement contains the following line:

2.5. You may not copy, decompile, attempt to discover the source code or resources, reverse engineer, disassemble, modify, or create derivative works of the Software in whole or part, including translation to another language, computer language or format.

So I guess that it is very possible to retrieve the code, and hence the need to mention it in the agreement. So this is probably just a rumour.

Sadly it isn't an easy task to completely recover a project after its been assembled and end up with anything that resembles the true pre-assembled code. Sylenth would end up with many thousands of lines of pseudo code.
As I said basic manipulations are possible and thats about it.

The only thing that makes me think the rumour is true is the amount of time Lennar actually took to make Sylenth 64 bit compatible and the complete lack of updates since.

Btw the rumour came from someone who claimed to be a true close personal friend of Lennar. How true the rumour is remains to be seen.

If it is true .. then it should no longer be hidden, seeing as its been 3 years since an update. Non disclosure, as opposed to outright concealment, of business secrets, is an ethically grey area as it is, but when it is for so long, then its not grey anymore imho. Plus the absence of any reply to customers IS concealment.

I think in a lot of cases, ppl on macs who have already bought Sylenth1 just want a simple answer, even if it is a 'no'. This is not because customers want more features, but because they want to be able to continue using it in future. Some also need to spend time to truly figure out a synth, and theyre just wondering if its worth it with this. If anything, its out of a genuine preference for the quality of his work and the wonderful sound of this synth, that many ppl, including me, want to continue using sylenth1, even though I have enough other synths to not use Sylenth1 again, and not really miss anything.

Im sure he's justified in being p****d off about piracy, but the ppl that actually paid are not to blame here, though they are the only ones that really lose out. Im still 32-bit on mac, and planning to get a windows laptop too, so its not a major concern for me, but the fact is that it is wrong.

Just shows lack of basic respect, particularly for potential customers.

IMO even the lack of a response to user emails about a mac 64 bit version shows lack of respect for current customers. This is not because customers want more features, but because they want to be able to continue using it in future. Im sure he's justified in being pissed off about piracy, but he shouldn't take it out on the ppl that actually did pay. Im still 32-bit on mac, and planning to get a windows laptop too, so its not a major concern for me, but the fact is that it is wrong.
Sylenth sales are strong even to this present day considering how long ago it was updated.
True piracy has played a small part in its decline but no more than any other mainstream vst.
Actually I still see many attempts from users who request group buys so the demand is still strong.

From a business point of view though if Lennar came out and said "hey I've lost the source" I am 100% sure sales would take a major hit because no one really wants to buy into something that has no upgrade future and who can blame them.?
So obviously silence is the best policy if future sales are to be maintained.
The presets will still continue to grow regardless and the illusion of growth can continue.

imo Sylenth's future died a couple of years ago but no one not even Lennar has the stomach to admit it.
