I'm glad i'm a Reason user. Even Logic drives me nuts at times and it's not even half as buggy as Live 8.

I know they haven't announced the price yet, but it'd better be in american dollars, because I can't use any Visa, Mastercard or American express gift cards to buy it online, at least I think I can't. I tried that with Renoise, but the price of Renoise is in Euros.

I don't like the effects GUI especially - either the dark grey/orange colour scheme or the 3D know effect. I prefer the 2D Ableton originals. YMMV.

Not that I actually know anything, but I guess I wouldn't be surprised if Ableton is licensing tech to Bitwig. It would be a logical way to divest from a single application that was conceived quite a while ago and I think basically everyone agrees needs substantial retooling.

All in all, as a long-time user, the lack of insight about what's going on at Ableton is really disappointing. It was fun when the next version popped up fairly regularly. Recently, it's agonizing when I get worried about long-term prospects and whether Live will really be competitive considering Bitwig or even stuff like Maschine or Traktor (I sort of don't get personally interested by NI but hey, they're innovating, right?).

Why spend so much time coding something new and then coming out with something not so new but a better(?) version of Live while the same Live is supposedly coming out with v9? (And the possibility to get sued to the ground). If they are thinking to get most of the Live's users it's not really going to happen until the great delusion or success of Live 9.

If it is really a better Live, the workflow then is most likely the same and if it hasn't grab other users before, that workflow will just leave those users cold as well as before.
I feel the whole thing is a little twisted somewhere, almost like a covert operation. Time will tell.
But again, how can these brilliant people choose to spend so much time and resources to come up with THE SAME THING!

It could just be that those ex-Abletone crews feel that there are something that they want to change in Live to make it better, but simply couldn't because there are issues deep in the very foundation of the code that would need a lot of rewriting to do?

Or maybe their ideas were not listened? So they took the general concepts as the base and expand it with their own. We don't know yet. I think it's not really fair to say that they come up with the same thing. We are only speculating now, and I do see something that I wish Live had, but haven't for many years. There are certainly more to come. They won't just go ahead and produce the same thing and repeat the same mistakes.

@ttoz I find the GUI to be very attractive. Since it looks vector based I'm sure you can change the colorscheme to your liking. As for the default look, they obviously want to make it look different from Live's light gray look, AND it's better suited for live use.

To me BWS looks like a better version of Live. More intuitive interface combining Project5 and Live, multiscreen support, generic tracks (!!!) and a completely integrated modular system (which will hopefully be very efficient).
