Can a Receptor 2+ be upgraded to a Pro or Pro max?

I was just looking through the receptor upgrade paths as this could be a possibility in the future. I think I need more processor power effectively run my plug-ins with the Akai EWI and sample modeling software, particularly with lower latency and higher resolution. Is that a possibility, or do I just move to a Pro or Pro-Max outright.

Thanks,

You might also consider the possibility of swapping your Receptor 2's hard drive with an SSD, especially if you're trying to get better results with streaming sample libraries in Kontakt.

That is something to definitely consider, but aren't I still stuck with he AMd's processor speed in handling the midi data stream with all of the cc2 being generated or will the SSD help deal with that too?

What an SSD helps with dramatically is the speed of samples streaming into Kontakt. This can have a significant impact on Kontakt's handling of huge orchestral and piano sample libraries.

I don't think it will have any impact on the handling of your MIDI CC information.

I haven't used the Samplemodeling plugs, but from what I gather these don't use enormous amounts of samples. I think the Trumpet package is something like 500 MB. It might be that for those instruments processing speed is a lot more important for performance improvements than the speed with which samples stream into Kontakt.

An SSD is certainly worth a try. The way Kontakt works that could help. My only other question is the recommended size for the SSD. The Receptor has 750GB which I know is for handling a lot of larger instruments like Ivory and others which I wouldn't be using. The largest I have seen is about 300GB at almost $600. Do I need something that large?

I was wondering the same,if in the future I want to upgrade to a faster chip.

Hi again,
After seeing the NAMM announcements regarding the Receptor VIP which looks like it will supplant the regular 2+ receptor, I guess I re-iterate my question regarding the upgrade path of a 2+ to either a Pro or Pro Max. Several helpful people have suggested that SSD could help some of the issues I am finding though because my use of the Receptor is more unique than the Keyboardists, Guitarists, or Drummers I may still require more processing power than I currently have and of course I would like to get there in the most cost-effective way possible. My impressions of the receptor I have so far are generally good in that it allows me to switch out sound setups quickly using snapshots. Because I use an EWI and throw continuous streams of CC2 for my sample modeling instruments I have to reduce the resolution and increase the sample rate to eliminate clipping when trying to use layers of multiple occurrences of voices on several channels. Would appreciate a response.
Thanks,
Dan
