Hi, I am quite new to Mulab. I imported an Audio file in track 1, which sounds fine when clicking Replay.
After that I made an audio recording using my Keyboard which sounded good too when recording.
I gave a name to the recorded track and there it was. BUT: I only hear my imported audio track and not the recorded one although it is clearly visible.
What could be the matter?

Hi Rob, did you make an audio recording or a MIDI recording?
I mean: do you see a part with an wave in it or a part with little horizontal lines in it (the notes)?

Just trying to guess what's going on: Maybe you were playing sounds from your MIDI keyboard, then when recorded they're not yet routed to MIDI out?

Hi, the strange thing is, that in a new session, Mulab records the keyboard playing as audio, resulting in a wave imagr, but the sound is kinda gritty. Not exactly the grand Piano I am used to hear from it.
In the session with the imported audio file, whatever I do, it results in a midi track ( with the small horizontal lines) and no sound.

To me seems that you have the levels to high and you get some clipping. Thanks for your help.
I set the input levels for audio recording as low as possible, but it still gives a horrible sound, so I switched to MIDI recording, although I miss a lot of the built in instruments of my keyboard. In that case the sounds are perfect. I will do my audio recording as I was used to in Audacity.

Just checking: Did you put the keyboard in a Mic input on your soundcard? In that case you'll get distorted sounds all the time as microphone input is too sensitive for the output of a keyboard. Make sure you connect the keyboard to a 'line level' audio input on your audio device.
Anyway, i assume that's not the case because you got good recordings in audacity you say.
Also: what's the rack level meter saying when playing back that recorded audio?
Is it in red? If yes, then maybe also try to, in MuLab's audio recording setup (right-click the record button), to switch the Auto Normalize function off. Depending on where the recorded audio was routed too, this could result in a overdriven sound?

Hi, I just have one input for line-in and one for line-out. So there is little choice and as said before: Audacity has no problems with my Casio CTK 6000.
I started wondering if the Asio driver could be the culprit, but when I replace that with the standard Windows driver, there is no sound at all.
The recording level is really low, so I just don't know anything else to do but record in Audacity and then import audio into Mulab, but it is a crazy work-around.

No, no, no. MIDI works fine. That's not the problem.
It is the horrible sound I hear when activating Audio and play on my keyboard. The sound has some delay, but that is normal. What is worse is the terrible distortion of my instruments.
It is puzzling me, because Audacity ( which of course is specialized in Audio) does a perfect job and produces all keyboard instruments loud en clear.

Rob, i don't know about audio recording probs in MuLab 4 so i think we should look at other components that could go wrong.
As a test:
* New session
* Session menu -> Show Modular Area
* Eventually enlarge the window, then right-click -> Auto Arrange
* Now connect the audio input straight to audio output.
Now play your casio keyboard and listen to the sound that is coming out of the computer, maybe use your headphones to isolate the computer audio out.
If that sound is bad, then i think there is something wrong before audio comes in into MuLab.
If that's the case, then please already check in Audacity which type of audio driver is set in your Audacity audio setup.
If it's not ASIO, then also try ASIO in Audacity and listen how recordings sound.
By continuing this path, you should be able to narrow down the reason.

Hi, I followed the steps upto the sentence saying"Now play something on your Keyboard".
Audio Input is connected to Audio File Recorder.
I do not succeed to connect it to the Audio Output. How does one do that?
Everytime I drag the little red triangle to the Audio Output it sweeps back.

The audio recording sound problem is solved.
Untill now I set Audio Recording Setup:
Record from: Audio Input
Monitor to: AUDIO OUTPUT, and that has been changed now to RACK 1, 2, 3 OR 4
From that moment the sound in my earphones still is not great, but the recording is perfect.
How stupid that one misdirection could spoil the sound and make audio recording impossible!
