Just investigated this and indeed when opening MIDI setup by double clicking the Midi Output module in the Session Modular Area it crashes very often (after 2-4 times usually).
Coincidently you have copied the same setup from Trancit wrt MIDI loopback. Maybe reason is located there somewhere..?
I didn't notice before because I used to open the Midi Setup via the MuLab knob menu all the time. The crashes do not happen then.
I double-checked the code: editing a MIDI out module is exactly the same as going to MULAB -> MIDI Setup, no difference.
What might also be interesting to know is that when I open the Session Modular Area before I have opened the Midi Setup, then there is no MIDI Output module in the displayed in the Modular Area.

I have to open the MIDI Setup first (without changing anything, the right ports are already set) and click Cancel or Done and then the MIDI Output module pops into the Modular Area window.
Yes indeed the factory New.MuSession doesn't include a MIDI output module yet.
I've added one.

Note that you can add a MIDI output yourself too by creating a new module -> Inputs/Outputs -> MIDI Output.

Just tried with normal midi drivers (PHASE 22 soundcard) selecting the same for MIDI in and MIDI out, and when I then open and close the Midi setup repeatedly from double clicking the MIDI Output module in the Session Modular Area, then I get no crases. So it looks like it's a midi loopback isue through those virtual Midi driver tools.

That's really odd, because on my system it does behave differently

Would be interesting to know if Trancit has the same behaviour when opening MIDI Setup through either Modular Area or MuLab Menu.

Here's a few questions I sent to Jo which I'm repeating here... and wow that was one of the most confusing string of posts I've ever read... I open a new document and make a song

Anyway...

1. If I select the top note in the velocity section of the piano roll when 2 or 3 notes are occupying the same beat I can't adjust the top note? I keep getting the bottom note. This used to work? DLd the latest version.

2. I set a cmnd. key to bring up the location/bar dialog to move the cursor. If I move the cursor with this dialog and set a marker with my cmnd. key for (set marker), the marker is off to a bar near? Selecting a location on the time bar (manually) and using the set marker cmnd. key does work though now. Hmmm...

3. How (Can I?) do I apply swing to drum notes in a clip/sequence? Seems I had this working before, where it would offset the notes based on grid... but now it seems I can only get it to snap to the nearest grid? Maybe I was imagining that?

2. Seems like the numbers on the top bar got too big and I it was lighter grey before, right? Seems a little heavy up there now. I'm a graphic designer though so my opinion is biased... Ha!

3. If I want to select all the notes in a sequence when I'm in the edit window how would I do that? To delete them that is...sleceting them with the keyboard on the left deletes the sequence?

4. I'm creating MuDrum presets with samples... is there a way to package the preset with samples to upload?

5. I right-clicked the keyboard at the top to hide, can't get it back?

I'm using the OSX version and it sems a lot of (interface) stuff doesn't work reliably... could be that I'm not sure how some of this works, but I've been reading the docs extensively. I'm coming from Logic where evrything seems to be "Logical" to me. Ha!

Thanks!

:hihi:

Yes i asked you this because this way others can benefit from/participate in the Q&A.
1. If I select the top note in the velocity section of the piano roll when 2 or 3 notes are occupying the same beat I can't adjust the top note? I keep getting the bottom note. This used to work? DLd the latest version.
I checked this and all working fine here. If you select a note it is prioritized in the event graph editor (eg the velocity bars)
2. I set a cmnd. key to bring up the location/bar dialog to move the cursor. If I move the cursor with this dialog and set a marker with my cmnd. key for (set marker), the marker is off to a bar near?
Key shortcuts are snapped to the current grid.
I double checked, all working fine here.
3. How (Can I?) do I apply swing to drum notes in a clip/sequence? Seems I had this working before, where it would offset the notes based on grid... but now it seems I can only get it to snap to the nearest grid? Maybe I was imagining that?
To apply swing, select a swinged grid, and apply quantize,or reposition events manually, as appropriate.
2. Seems like the numbers on the top bar got too big and I it was lighter grey before, right? Seems a little heavy up there now. I'm a graphic designer though so my opinion is biased... Ha!
FYI: Did not change recently.
3. If I want to select all the notes in a sequence when I'm in the edit window how would I do that?
Which edit window? You mean from the composer? Why would you want to do that?
To delete them that is...sleceting them with the keyboard on the left deletes the sequence?
See http://www.mutools.com/mulab/docs/sequence-editor.html

You can lasso notes and press delete.
Or lasso notes and ctrl+click the start/end of a selected note.
4. I'm creating MuDrum presets with samples... is there a way to package the preset with samples to upload?
http://www.mutools.com/mulab/docs/prese ... ement.html
5. I right-clicked the keyboard at the top to hide, can't get it back?

Can you please specify what is not working reliably?

If you're confused about the keyboard shortcuts, then please read the section about UI focus on this doc page.

Hmmm... I'm selecting the note I want to edit the velocity, of course, but if it's the top note(s) it's not adjusting that velocity in the bottom graph. So I have a kick, snare and hi-hat on the same beat, and I select the hi-hat (top) and it keeps changing the kick or snare unreliably. That's what it's doing. Which makes programming drum patterns practically impossible. Seems like in old versions I had to hold down the cmd./cntrl key or something, but it isn't working in the latest version I Dld. OSX 10.5.8...

Maybe it's my computer OSX version but all the items I mentioned are NOT working here... :(

...and at the risk of sounding annoyed here, I have programmed a LOT of cmnd. keys that do work. It's the combination of keys and or interface issues that seem to keep popping up as I try and create a similar workflow to my Logic setup. Ultimately I would like to not upgrade my Logic and just use MuLab, but I have to get a few essential (to me) things working before I can do that. I appreciate the great response and updates on this program which is why I've been using it for so long... Musys days. But I have to sort out some of this stuff to just launch and go...

Thanks Jo!

As for the selecting notes to delete... In Logic if I select a clip and open it in the piano roll, selecting the note in the vertical keyboard on the left side window selects all the notes on that key in the piano roll. So if I want to delete them or say change all the velocities I can. In Mulab this deletes the clip/sequence? Not what I would expect. I know I can hand select all the those notes or lasso them but that takes a lot of extra mousing around which I'm just used to not doing.

I really try and do as many things as I can with the keyboard or cmnd. keys on the interface. That's what I'm used to doing, so it is just my preference. I realize other people don't look at it the same way. :)

M 4-0-107:

The MIDI-forget problem persists despite of the new dialogue on startup (if indeed the dialogue was meant to fix it).

The issue with the audio file that won't play beyond bar 1 until you move a locator also isn't fixed.

(I didn't read all of the list, so I don't know if 4-0-107 was actually meant to fix those).

Can't find a fault otherwise.

I just triple-checked, specificly in the OSX version, all working as described.
Anyone else having problems with this?

Are you sure the events are on the same time?
Select all 3, and open the even list editor, there you see the exact time.

I doubt that the above issue is system dependent.

About creating locators using a shortcut: i also double-checked it in the osx version specificly, works fine there too. Tip: in the bottom-right of the composer there is a display that shows the snapped mouse position. It's on that position that a "Add Locator" shortcut will work. Does that help?

I'm not sure what you mean with 'all' the other items, do you mean that from all the answers i gave, nihil is working?

Of course!

Hopefully we can sort this out asap. There must be a logical reason somewhere. So lets stay cool and find that reason.

No that new dialog had nothing to do with that.
I know this system dependent (not all OSX systems suffer from it) issue is still there, will research further when possible.

Can you please give me a ultra detailed step by step how i can repeat it with M4.0.107 starting from a clean factory New.Musession. Sorry to ask, thanks in advance!

O.K. I just DLd the latest version... and the velocity changes seem to be working now. If I place 3 notes on the same beat and select the top one in the PR it is changing that one. When dragging the graph all the other lines disappear... I'm assuming that's the way it's supposed to be.

Also, there is a very small corner of the "focused module panel" that seems to bring up the cmnd. to bring back the keyboard... I have to really try to hit it. But it is there!

Selecting notes in the edit window, still trying to figure that one out? For instance why would I want to select all notes ((right clicking keyboard in piano roll) then delete the whole sequence? I would think selecting all notes would be to do either (deleting) or affect all of these notes somehow?

Hmmm...

Also...

Adjusting functions on a group of notes in a drum pattern... if I want to shift the "start time" of notes/beats is there a way to do that with the "functions" menu? Or would that need to be done manually? I'd like to shift drum patterns forward or backwards for swing feel. I see there is a way to change length etc. but it starts from the beginning of the notes which are already locked to the grid. Maybe I'm missing something there? :?:

Functions has a "Change times" sub-entry for changing times.

Is there a way to put arbitrary locators into an event sequence (like there is for audio)? I don't actually want to split the sequence up to show its structure but I need a way of navigating...

Naming locators would be nice...

starts at the end of the note/beat... not the beginning?
