Hey guys!
I was wondering if anyone of you soundies out there could take a listen to this track I made. I make electronic music and recently moved to icy norway from sunny australia:)

I would value your input on the production of the track, and all suggestions are accepted with gusto, passion even^^
Cheers,
Martin
Xtra: spot the section of the song with the most amount of Diva going on;)

First off! Welcome to Scandinavia! Winter is good for music makers keeps you focused on the sound universe while hell freezes over!
Funny how I can somehow hear how the Australian climate and energy affects this track more than the Scandinvian blue moods..
The beats are infectous positive.
General positve energy in this track.
Some looong lines and build ups, likely not radio material but as a soundtrack for a drive in the Outback you could easily have track after track of this kind thing to get you on down that long road.
I think it would be too chill out for a Norwegian mountain road in winter. Keep the eyes on the road and the brain alert that ditch goes down a few hundred meters!
Great sounds, nice development through the piece. I like how the qualites in the sound develop and changes, becoming more full, expansive and brighter, this accentuated by the whisling theme that come in 70% of the way through the track.
Good Job !
Regards
Wade

Haha thanks wade:D I had to laugh when I read your reply; it was really well written. I think indeed its a very aussie feel to it:P thanks for the comment.
Thanks koalaboy, I ended up keeping that break just because thats when I bought the diva, so started playing with it, and didnt have the heart to keep it out of the song
Do you guys have any thoughts about the bass? In the end I had to mix it on small monitors, so Im not quite sure how it sounds on a big system, other than it is quite low in the mix.

I'm unfortunately not on any big system. But I didn't notice on My AKG K240 Headphones any bass cloudiness or boomyness.Noctilucent wrote:Haha thanks wade:D I had to laugh when I read your reply; it was really well written. I think indeed its a very aussie feel to it:P thanks for the comment.

I might venture that the whole track had a rather light and airy feel lively. If I did pump up the bass I'd keep it tightly reigned in.

I think if you are worried about how your mix is going to behave in a big system, you need to get out and find a place where it's possible. Also a big system means a Big space.
I also need to upgrade my monitor setup. Very difficult and expensive. Room regulation, speaker placement. The whole setup should measured with a linear microphone. Adjustments made and measured again. Very expensive but for getting a true picture of whats going on in the mix it's perhaps a must do.
If you are at an advanced stage in a production where something is way off, it's much more difficult and time consuming if not impossible to bring thngs around.
Good luck with your project.

I've recently been to the Australian Pink Floyd Show - that wasn't too similar
But they don't play Australian music after all, they just have a kangoroo on the stage
. The track is really nice, I think I liked the voices in the middle most. As for production it sounded very clean on my laptop speakers...

Yeah, I know. I've tested it on a few different systems now, and it seems ok. I didnt mean to put that much focus on the low end to be honest, mainly I wanted to see what people thought of the production and balance of the mix:)( I can be very vague and word my questions badly:P)TwoToneshuzz wrote:I think if you are worried about how your mix is going to behave in a big system, you need to get out and find a place where it's possible. However, otherwise I am happy with the production in that I find it sounding quite good, but is it really possible to feel properly finished with a tune?;) If so, I havent made one yet:P
For room, its a hassle, but youre right in that its soo important. Had a small setup in australia, but seeing that I was moving away from there, I did not invest too much. Now that I am more stationary, Im going with an RME fireface, Dynaudios BM6a(probably) and i've already run the numbers with room dimensions, and besides a few small fixes, and a basstrap, I'll have a good neutral environment. High ceiling(!!!), and no flutters is always a good start:D
