Please let me try to explain the design decisions and flame me if you think I deserve it.

We heard the critics on forums about UVI Workstation v1, being too flashy, hard on the eyes...etc and we tried to make it more neutral to give focus on content (i.e. soundbanks) and more specifically the new scripted instruments that have dedicated interfaces (http://www.uvisoundsource.com/images/Image/articles_divers/EmulationII/cap_emu2.png). Those new instruments required us to reorganize the user interface: we introduced the Single page and took the opportunity to streamline the workflow and simplify daily usage.

In the aim of simplifying the usage for our customers, we choose to hide Hard Disk browsing in our internal FileBrowser so that all the vertical space is dedicated to soundbanks and search, users with lots of soundbanks appreciate. Note that loading of external loops and audio files is still possible by Drag & Drop, it's still there but less emphasized. But It looks like hard disk browsing is important for our customers, so it will be back in the next version.

About the Edit panel:
Our engine is modular and a fixed panel cannot match the diversity of structures and controls that are available in our instruments.
This is the reason why we introduced macro controls and scripted instruments in the first place.
But we heard the comments about the lack of editing and are actively working to provide a default editing panel.

I hope this is clarify things, don't hesitate to ask questions if not.
This makes sense. I understand where you're coming from. I hope the basic editing functions can be implemented in new versions. My problem was/is that someone who bought a few libraries like for instance Ircam Solo Instruments (over £300) now has to pay for Mach 3 (also over £300 isn't it?) just to be able to apply some basic attack and release to the sounds. Why not just include these simplest of all editing functions to the new player? Sure you can still use the old player, but do you really think anyone running a completely 64bit setup would want to revert to 32bit mode, or a 32bit bridge, just to be able to slow the attack on one instrument? I hope it's updated soon as I went from being a huge fan of the UVI stuff to really resenting what happened and not ever using it any more.

as I said in my former post:

And it will be ready soon.

Just to add to my last comment. As a suggestion for an update, maybe it would be good to have something like a discreet, small button - with just an 'E' on it or something, so as not to clog up the UI - that can be clicked by anyone with some of the Older UVI Soundsource libraries to open a page/window with basic editing functions? Does that make sense?

I thought the old adsr and filter editing section was really small, simple and intuitive in the old player. One of the reasons used it a lot, and used the old Plugsound stuff was because the main handy tools were included in the player and easy to access.

Why don't you go back to 1.1.7 ? That's what i did. Works fine in cubase 6 / pro tools 9 on W7 64. I totaly dislike the new uvi and hope for a gui roll back.

Can't remember any software that ever had a GUI rollback. :/

i found this thing to be completely unstable. worthless for me

If you're interested we can investigate this together.

We're not aware of any instability or crashes.

Mac or PC ?
Host ?
Which version of UVIWorkstation ?

If you're on mac, do you have crashlog ?
What was your use when it crashed ? playing instrument, auditioning loops, ...

What don't you like in the new GUI besides the lack of edit that will be resolved in 2.0.3 ?

Thanks,
Hmm.. a matter of taste, i think. The only grievance i had with 1.x was the tiny gui size and some little stability probs under xp, but i'm now on 7. The old shiny gui seems more logical to me. The new one is ugly (imo). Happy to hear the lack of editing features will be solved in 2.0.3. Will i have to download (again)the 40 gig of uvi stuff i own or will this work with previous .ufs ?

Post

Only the UVIWorkstation application is updated.
No need to download the UFS again.

Nice job, guys ! Thank you for bringing back the editing features !! :) :) Now the only thing that i miss, but it was already gone in 1.1.7, is the zone edit, usefull for changing, for example, the hh volume in a drum kit... But so far i'm really happy with the 2.0.3 release. Thank you.

Olivier, thank you for a great Valentine's day gift to us!!

Hey you guys, Acousticsamples seemed to support UVI format from now on.

Anyone trying to use this on a Mac?, I also appreciate the steps back in the right direction (the removal of the browser seemed a very bizzare decision!), but rex files DO NOT work AT ALL in 2.0.3

Even the tutorial bank ones don't work

(Cubase 6/VST / OSX 10.6.8 Mac Pro)
