You know, I think that just did it, I don't need presets, I'll make my own, the randomizer gets me close and I can tweak from there, thanks for mentioning that!

Audjoo Helix has an incredibly low CPU hit. the last free version is in the latest KVR OSC:

Yes Helix beta is incredible efficient with the resources, others are Synth1, Sonigen beta, V2 and Alpha Free.

Any synths of mine (see my signature). The blooo is more Mooguesque than the others, maybe that's what you're looking for. All of them run on Atom-class netbooks.

Did you try the 8x oversampled version yet? When I load it in Reaper there is no GUI. It does sound great though.

Tyrell and zebralette would both bring an old laptop to its knees. The Elektro Studio stuff is pretty low IIRC. I would also throw in the suggestion for the recently free Model E.
