Does MFM2 not offer envelope (amplitude) followers as a modulation source?
Filterscape and Zebrify do so is there a reason it is either hidden beyond the depths of the front page or non-existent?

I think I need a feature request form.

MFM has compressors... hmmm... Env Followers... dunno why not...? Maybe some time later...?

I hear you.. I just wanted to duck the output based on the input..
Can do it further on in the chain but it would be a sweet option (+ I <heart> amplitude modulated delay lines)

cheers :)

I've been working in more depth with Filterscape these last couple of days, so now I see someone else has gotten inspired by the envelope followers in Filterscape post. So I'm listening to the MFM demo. Most likely possible to do the same kinds of things using several UHBIK's in combination perhaps but I like the ease of use of these monster effects maschine being all patched and ready to go.

The learning curve is higher at first but workflow is much superior once learned..

I think I'm getting a sense of how to go about learning these complex effects.

Get intimate with each module alone, before combining too many elements is what i'm coming down to.

MFM

Next creative effects plug perhaps?!

I find it much more clear as to whats there and how it can interated with the whole with this interface compared to the new Valhalla Übermod, which is a cool effect, but the many tabs don't work for me. I'd much rather have a more comprhensive all at once overview like MFM. Not to say that I'm deciding on one or the other, both or neither. But hey! The graphics and the overview in MFM is killer.

waves break, but somehow it all makes sense.

Now THAT'S the most constructive and exciting seemingly unrelated hijak style suggestion I've heard today!

Try this...

The compressors in MFM2 can do a lot of cool things. They're great for simulating tape echo saturation. SInce you can choose the control signal independently of the signal to be processed you can achieve some really neat dynamic effects.

Before v2.1 came out , I requested routable envelope followers and you asked why anyone would want that on a delay! :x

Did I get an answer? :-o

Fair enough.
One of my favorite effects in Zebrify is to use the envelope follower to control modulation depth and LFO rate. I think this kind of thing would be a lot of fun in MFM2. Gimme some time and I could probably come up with some even wackier applications. :)

btw: can we get some side-chain inputs on MFM2 and Zebrify?

Post

Yeah, well... we'll see.

I think I didn't want envelope followers because I wanted to keep MFM2 out of Filterscape-territory. But if we add new zero-delay-feedback filters to Filterscape, then there's enough distinction even if MFM had envelope followers...

envelope follower is nice to mod filter cut,
if yous like.
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

No worries, I trust your judgment when it comes to this kind of thing. Even without envelope followers or side-chain inputs, MFM2 is my favorite delay. :D

Nice topic this. I kinds of information is dropping by the way side.

Filerscape, filter upgrade in the future.. That would be a very nice improvement and would help to distance this from the competition, er ah WHAT competition! I'd also like to see more signal flow choices. But don't listen to me you are the expert Urs!

Using the envelope follower to control cutoff is absolutely the most obvious way to use that modulation source.

Uhbik X is sort of a work around concept to reach the same kind of comprehensive control over an effects chain that you can achieve from the get go in Filterscape and MFM. But I'm speculating about UHBIK X would it ever be that intuitive to work with. I have previously setup rather long complex chains of UHBIK's and I find that it gets counter intuitive very quickly.

I think we need a helping hand here where the UHBIK's can be set into a contextual type framework. For example there are a fair number of effects that use time divisions when they get set into a group effect modus it could be interesting if the time controls became automatically linked. Like wise a little mixer section in one spot where the various effects mix amounts could be controlled..

So just writing this previous paragraph I begin to see how difficult it is to setup multi effects chains that are easy to work with. Things get muddy vary quickly. So The MFM, and Filterscape model of multi effects enviroments seen in this light appear to be even more powerful.

The actual practice of using the expanded effects takes more time to get into. Programming them well is for advanced users, just as getting the most out of ACE,Zebra,Diva, requires much knowledge and practice..

I think all in all in the end. Maxed out effects enviroments Like MFM, and Filterscape will result in huge workflow improvements for those that want to work with complex effects.

For light tuning of already rich sounds, use one or two or max 3 unit effects units like the UHBIK's, for sound design experiments and development on a grand scale use MFM and Filterscape. Of course anyone can made the fine effects presets already included with the programs, but effects by their nature are often a per case tool.
