Buggy Problem with MidiPrograms, Program Select

I've been using Midi Programs bank selects for a year, selecting programs from a controller in Zebra. I just got it working in Diva today. But it doesn't work for ALL patches, just some. Looks like a bug. Need help.

Here's the problem. I invoke a patch in Diva with an external controller, name shows correctly in the top window, but it sounds like a muffled version of itself, or in one case, the patch is completely wrong (THXish, which is hard to mistake). But if I click on the patch name in the Patch window, it suddenly sounds as it should--So I know I don't have the wrong files in the folder. (And the name in the window changes to a larger font)

This is a problem with only three or four patches, and all the others in the very same folder, using exactly the same method, sound fine, no problem.

And what are those numbers that the program adds to the beginning of the patch names? Might have something to do with it because when I click on the patch, the name is different--doesn't have all the numbers.

I'm triggering from clips in Ableton. Have the patches in a sub folder and calling Bank 2, Program X. Followed directions in the manual, and it does work. And, yes, I go out of Ableton and restart after moving files around. I know that trick too.

Any help would be appreciated. I have a performance coming up and need to be able to rely on program changes with the controller.

Interesting. Can you send us a list of those 3 or 4 patches?

The numbers in the front are bank/program numbers.

The four programs (out of 16 that I laid out to be triggered by my PadKontrol) are:

Duduwap 1
Hail Bob 1
THXism
Schnarrer

Dud and Bob and Schrarrer sound muffled when I invoke them.
THXism loses the radical glide into the sustained notes (but it is the same timbres)

As I said above, when I click on the same patches in the window, they revert to the correct sounds, and all is fine.

Let me know what to try or what more information you need, and I'll supply it. (I'm in the USA, so there is some lag behind Germany time).

I added more patches to the bank I access from a controller, and I'm seeing exactly the same problem described above. The majority of patches work as they should, but a few don't. The inconsistent aspect of this problem is consistent.

The additional patches that don't sound correctly when called with bank/program commands are:
Hail Bob 2
Prodigal
Synco Hangar

I think these are all from the original "factory" banks, but can't be sure.

As an additional test, I took all seven patches that are misbehaving, put them in a separate folder, renamed them slightly, and assigned them to clips in Live (which is how I'm doing the others that work). No change. They don't sound correctly when called. If I click on the patch from the Patch window of Diva, they sound right. Then after clicking into a different patch, when I go back, they sound wrong again.

This is obviously a bug within the MidiProgram feature of Diva (didn't have the problem in Zebra). I hope you can find the solution. This MidiProgram feature I find to be unstable in general. Sometimes it exhibits other erratic behavior, but nothing as consistent as the problem I'm describing here. So must be some dodgey code in there that I'm hoping you guys will hunt down and fix in the next version. Or tell me what I can do differently.

The reason I'm persevering to solve this is because I depend on Diva (and Zebra) in live performance and I don't have time to use the mouse while I'm playing my keyboards. I have my setup designed with a few dozen patches each available with the push of a button (using PadKontrol and NanoKontrol), which works great when Diva cooperates.

Thanks,

Steve

bump.

This problem hasn't gone away. It's affecting my performances because it occurs with some of my favorite patches. I'd like to automate more patch selection, but can't depend on the patches responding consistently.

Any suggestions? Any fixes on the horizon?

This is only a "problem" because I like the sounds of Diva and Zebra so much. They're becoming more central to my whole music-making setup.

I have to yet look into this. That trade show had us all worked up, and now we're working like mad on these bugfixes.

Thank you for your quick reply. I'll be patient. Worth waiting for.

Reading the topic title, for a second I thought that you used a buggy as a midi controller for Diva, and that you were having problems controlling Diva with your buggy.

I have a vivid imagination.

Should be good for that vintage spring reverb sound. :)

I'm definitely hoping for a fix to this.patch changes via controllers always make me feel like i'm actually working on a real synth, my hate for mouses when trying to play is major ;)

Here's the deal:

When Diva gets started the first time, she loads every preset in MIDI Programs and stores it in memory. This way she can react on MIDI Program Changes directly, without accessing files (which would introduce a delay, or crash). In order to keep the memory footprint low, only data vital for the preset is kept in memory. Unusued modules are omitted, e.g. if FX are turned off.

Now, various methods are deployed to assess whether a module is active or not. Modulators check if their assigned stream of modulation data is accessed by any other module that's active. But wait. The modifier section holds a modulator that provides for 6 different modulations. But only the first stream, "Rectify", is evaluated for its usage. So if "Rectify" isn't used anywhere, the MIDI Program in memory will omit the whole section including Muliplier, Lag and so on. These will be taken from whatever setting were on before...

:dog:

Consider it fixed in next beta.

I'm happy to report that Diva 1.1 solved this problem. All patches work when selected through MIDI Programs bank.

Thanks for fixing it.
