The March issue of Music Tech Magazine reviewed Diva on page 93 and gave her 8/10. Unfortunately, it's obvious the reviewer isn't particularly knowledgable about Diva. No mention was made about the way synths were simulated, nothing said about zero-delay feedback filters, etc., just "solid sounds" (yeah, that's objective)! Electrax and Blue were considered similar, competing synths
Also they "didn't notice any" CPU hit! "Anyone with a recent, well-stocked PC or Mac shouldn't have any issues."

Since when does the c't review this kind of software? What's the verdict?

It's just a small 1/3 page info-review. The verdict is along the lines of "not much to complain about", but they wonder why only Osc1 can be used for FilterFM, and FilterFM should be stronger.paterpeter wrote:Since when does the c't review this kind of software? What's the verdict?

One does not simply suggest that Diva could be better.

Wow - can't wait to see that MusicTech review. ElectraX? Completely different animal. No mention of the way synths were simulated?
One thing I've noticed missing from the reviews so far (and even some of the "Diva vs. Analog" threads
) is Diva's ability to seamlessly mix/match the synth components - the fact that you can swap out osc/filter/env models and retain the original settings - nothing like tossing Moog envelopes on a Korg filter, etc.
I know that's obvious to US, but it shouldn't take much for a reviewer to figure that out.

Shame on the reviewer and Music Tech Magazine. You would like to think that a review in a leading music technology publication would be carried out by a competent person with some level of minimal research before 'reporting' to their readers.Gonga wrote:The March issue of Music Tech Magazine reviewed Diva on page 93 and gave her 8/10. Well, the MusicTech one didn't strike me as bad at all, no matter how many obvious-to-us aspects were omitted.
It seems that reviewers need to add *some* critics, and thus some split hairs (e.g. Osc 1 for FilterFM instead of Osc 3, which was done for good reason). Another one found that "The effect section doesn't have much to offer, only Chorus, Delay, Phaser, Reverb and Rotary" (sic!). He goes on about their averageness, but didn't take into account that these are all pretty faithful replica of vintage fx too.
It's okay though. Reviewers are entitled to their opinion and I won't complain. Hardly any review has omitted to point out that Diva sets a standard for analogue sound in the box. That was all we ever hoped for
Cheers,
Urs

You have a great disposition Urs! It's true his impression of Diva was obviously a good one, but I didn't think he gave any indication that Diva stood out from the crowd, nor much information as to why that might be the case.

I sometimes purchase MusicTech (it's just nice to read paper sometimes when you're sitting down to lunch - my eyes are getting too old for 15-hour screen days). It's $16 a pop here in the US, and while much of that goes towards the DVD, it's not like it's a niche rag or anything. The reviews are detailed and take up a good chunk of the magazine, so I'd assume the content was accurate and covered the bases.
Not that 8/10 is a bad review, or that any reviewer can be completely objective. You'd just expect it to cover the bases. Makes me question the other reviews in MT...
