Padshop's got some great sounds. Nice full pads of all kinds are represented in the presets. My only gripe is that I really can't find any quick way to page through the presets for auditioning.

Alchemy, on the other hand has a nice browser that allows for a faster browsing experience. It also has some beautiful pad capabilities, but also does so much more, as has been noted here.

I'm a preset guy. I occasionally will tweak stuff, but I invest my time in browsing/auditioning, not creating. 99% of the time someone has either nailed or come very close to the sound in my head. Leaves me more time to play. Padshop adds a nice new collection of colors to the crayon box.

So many plugins, so little time...

Also, as an Alchemy user, I haven't heard it make the kinds of sounds that are all over the PadShop demos.

Hm it's weird as on Steinberg Padshop's page there is a tab for "Specs and Download" but without any downloads.. :bang:

What are you hoping to download? The Cubase updates are always on the Support/Downloads page.

I think the clue is in the title of the VST:
Pad'SHOP'

My guess is that they will follow the NI model and release products/preset/sample packs based on the engine (as with Kontakt/Reaktor etc.), which ties into the low initial price. If so I think it's a great marketing move, as it highlights their product, creates continuous interest with new pack releases, while promoting Cubase and Cubase Artist (which it is also included with). Others have rightfully posted that Alchemy can do everything here and more which I agree with, but at 5 times the price, there is always going to be a market for them both. The truth is that Padshop provides a cheap entry into granular synthesis (although you can probably pick up a copy of Reaktor in the marketplace for not much more these days, and Absynth for probably less!).

A demo would be a typical thing to have in the download section of a synth's product page, wouldn't you say?

I presumed it was Pads-Hop, as in: "Yo dawg, these pads be hoppin' yawl".

Don't think many Germans say "Yawl"

VST3 only and Win7 only too by the look of it :?

Post

ahhh crap didnt see win7 only, got XP still......

Post

VST3... yep, also because it's supporting Note Expression which is a VST3 only thing.
There are vocals, multi-saw waves and stuff included and this is IMO not bad for the first time.
Steinberg knows about the wish to import samples, so I expect it will be supported in the future but this doesn't mean that Padshop is unusable because it doesn't allow own samples this time.

Cubase 6.5 is supposed to be Win 7 only, as well, yet many people report it working well in XP.

I'm using 6.0.5 here on XP and everythinbg works perfectly :)
Cubase has been Win7 only since version 6.0.0.

Yeah, I totally agree.

Is padshop available outside of cubase? Thought I read here $99 or something street price? Haven't been spammed by the usual suspects in email about the offering however. I'd be curious to give this a go and see how it stacks up to some reaktor ensembles, and the monolake max4live thingy, and last but certainly not least maelstrom.
