Sorry... I wouldn't know how to, with today's implementation of MIDI within the plug-in realm. Also, I have no idea if there is a standard for this other than controller values.

Nevertheless, the main issue is that we moved the implementation from the host-interface right into the guts of our framework, with a new message channel going from DSP to Host/GUI. From now on we can add more features, such as NRPNs and what not, and if MIDI out was provided we could probably send whatever possible.

Actually, we will have a MIDI out one way or the other. It's only due to limitations of time that we haven't put LEDs and stuff onto our example controller. We might in the coming months add buttons with LEDs, and then we'll have to have a channel back.

At some point we might need to look at OSC, but I'm not sure where that takes us.

;) Urs

Was that developed for Reason integration (somewhat rhetorical as if it was you probably won't be able to answer!)

There's a clear "no" here.

I've had the concept in my head for years, and it's needed for various controllers, e.g. this one:

Urs,
That link does't work for me.

Looks like the site has been replaced by a countdown to Musikmesse :o

NAMM 2012 "oh, look, another controller "
Musikmesse 2012 "oh, look, another controller :hyper:"

I wonder if strictly encapsulating a superset of MIDI feature sets in the more dynamic OSC address space might be interesting. As far as I can tell, in application juggling OSC and MIDI is ad hoc. Just hypothetically a framework exists where tunneling OSC->MIDI and MIDI->OSC is clearly delineated.

From a networking perspective I think that's absolutely necessary, as there's no guarantees about how nodes are connected. OSC has a problem - I believe OSC isn't well defined enough to guarantee that different OSC nodes are on the same page. I think the hope is that conventions might sort of evolve ... something like a standard tunneling protocol might even help establish a baseline there.

fixed it

If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

Oh hell yeah.

How will it handle the patch cables?

Who? What? Where?

OK, more Uhbik VS Reason ... Urs explains the differences (and similarities) of a normal vst or au plugin and the rack extension format at some point, besides other info...

No videos or pics from the u-he booth yet! :P
