 Hi just wanted to check out how Tracktion is working on Panther :?:
Better than on Osx 10.2.8 ? (been having occasional crashes when opening a large Vsti gui for instance-thinking of switching to Panther)
 Will Vsts that worked on 10.2 still be ok on 10.3 ? Just want to get an idea of what problems I might have in store :!:
Ps.Is anyone else still getting playback cursor/crosshair hanging <not scrolling as it should>( also bar counter freezing ) when working with some Vstis?
Thanks.

I'm using Panther and it's super smooth (G4 PB, 1.25 Gz, 512 Ram)... though I do need more memory...

Post

I'm using Panther. I got a little boost over Jaguar as far as performance goes. I'm using a G3 750 iBook w. 384 Mb RAM.

I still have x.2.8. I am hesitant to change because I've heard bad stories about networking, esp. with windows, which I must do. x.2.8 works so well, I hate missing with it.

I have a problem with the "position bar?" stopping when I am editing midi. the track keeps playing, the auto scroll stops. Probably the most annoying problem for me. If i stop and rewind, it works again, til the next time it stops. Is this what you mean? kj.

I've had that scroll bar problem too, but I've had it in a number of different versions of Tracktion, and on both Panther and Jaguar, so I'm guessing it's an unresolved bug in Tracktion. On an aside, I've found no difference between Jaguar and Panther in networking with PCs ... they both sucked (the job gets done though).

Ok So several people are experiencing this playback cursor hang/freeze problem in Osx 10.2 &10.3 (really annoying when you need to know your position on the screen!)
Please Jules  Ps. So the vote is for Panther -thanks. But what about your vstis? No problems with incompatibility? :)

What sucks about networking with pc's in jaguar? kj.

Post

I never got the OS X system to see the PCs. The PCs could see it no problem, but unless I threw the IP into the "Go" input, I had no way of getting from the Mac to my PC. Not a sreious problem for a home user, but a pain in the office.

i believe this program exists in both 10.2 and 10.3: Directory Access. try going in there and turning off everything but Active Directory and SMB. you may need to log out and back in after applying changes and quitting directory access (or at least force restart the finder).

with 10.3.3, browsing windows networks is the best it's every been with os X. i'd highly recommend it...

As far as I know, the choice of Panther/Jaguar shouldn't matter at all to tracktion.

Saw the stopping-cursor bug myself the other day, so I'll investigate that.

I have two pc's here at home, both with wireless, and my 12" pb, and haven't really had any trouble transferring files between them all. The two pc's just show up when I "connect to server" under the go. Its good to hear networking is good under 10.3.3. Maybe it's time to upgrade.

And as far as the stopping cursor, thanks Jules! I hope you find the problem without too much trouble. Thanks, kj.

Hello,

This thread is old I know but has anyone found a fix for the "cursor freeze bug" in Panther? I found no other reference to it here and I'm experiencing this annoying little bug. Other than that I'm a happy Tracktion camper.
