Great news!

Incidentally, I don't have any problem with crackling w/Reaper... but do have a problem figuring out what the heck to do with this synth to have consistent sonic results. The first half of the manual wasn't much of a help (getting to the second half).

What do you mean with "consistent"? Do you obtain different sounds with the same preset at different moments?

It seems like it, sometimes. Although now that I've read the manual, it may be something about that '4th component' of the sound.

And also that I have no idea what the 'filter characteristics' of 'snare 1' should be vs. 'piano'. It just seems very time consuming to add sound components and audition them only to find that none of them give the sound I want!

I've messed a little with this synth: it seems to me that it gives good and usable sounds, but not full control over them (excluding the "classic" adsr, filter etc sections). It's time to read the manual :)

Remember you can always use an external filter if that's the easiest to work with. Frohmage, TAL filter, Bifilter, Delta Filter and Minion are quite good in my opinion.

Thanks for the tip. Frohmage is allowed? It looks like there are some aspects that wouldn't normally be acceptable.

The phasing effect from the band delays? Remember modulation is now OK as long as it's a secondary feature of another effect and used moderately. Saturation and distortion have never been outlawed, but the main thing for all effects is not to alter the original sound beyond recognition.

Ahh, I misunderstood, then; great to know! Thanks.

Crackles arise again, using more than a Plex instance

The only workaround I've found so far: rendering or, better, freezing, even if it's not an high cpu use issue, as the vst performance meter is constantly under 20%.

I'll try later with the "duplicate dll" trick...

Hello

That plex sounds........

Host lmms

This time i try this way

1 instance of plex
20 times play rif and sample

Fx some reverb and delay from host
limiter from host

Lots of work

And that is the result

With regards

:D

Bzur: Have you tried another host just to make sure it's the system? How about increasing sound card buffer, did you try?

It works, apparently :) I raised from it 10.0ms to 20.0ms.

Let's see how it goes adding some tracks... first time this happens to me, so I didn't think to mess around with sound card buffer settings!

Thanks V'ger ;)

EDIT: maybe I have to raise the buffer again, the problem is still there, it comes and goes. I'll try with Reaper, maybe tomorrow.

Hi,

I have the same problem with the crackling. I tried allready the hint with the ini-file and and changed the latency. No result.
But the PLEX2 does not inspire me so much that I am sad about this issue. First it looked interesting to me but I cannot get the sounds I'd like to hear.
So I will make a brake from OSC this time.

Good luck to everyone and I look forward to your results.

That's a pity :( Anyway, with 48KHz, and 20ms of latency I've reached a quite acceptable situation. The crackles disappear almost completely in the rendered tracks. I'm also obtaining some interesting and usable sounds; the key is: layering, and tweaking the ADSR values. Also, start with a sound similiar to the one you want to obtain - even if slightly different from your desired sound, it could be surprisingly good in the mix, once you got the right reverb and eq.

Here's a preview of my track, hope it could be encouraging for you and all OSCers are thinking to give up this challenge: http://soundcloud.com/bzur/bzur-whisper ... ts-preview

No good news from the developer site: "Sorry Mac users, it's Windows only."

Anyway, you could try this...

Was very nervous about it, but finally bit the bullet and installed bootcamp on my mac last night and it's working great. Cubase and Plex are running smooth. :D

Thanks for sharing that preview and for the sound design tips bzur. Plex is definitely a bit tricky at first, very different method than anything I'm used to, but a cool concept taking lows from one instrument and mixing with highs from another. Should be a good learning experience trying to put something together with it.
