How to make that sound...

Hi!

Been into Alesso's stutter type sounds for a long time and finally sat down to try and figure out how he got the sound. I just can't seem to get how he does it!

Here are some links, the song is the so called ''Tomorrowland ID'':

0:00 - 0:27 (best quality)

0:47 - 1:16 (vocals over)

0:00 - 0:29 (low quality)

As always, any tips, presets or any guideline in general is much appreciated!

Pretty easily done with a tremolo or lfo filter over a pad that opens up.

Great tip, but is there anyway you can go more in-depth? Is it Sylenth1 and how do I set the LFO filters as you said above e.t.c?

try Xfer LFO Tool, it's just a straight note that is kind of gated in your own preference, and blend the dry/wet so it doesn't get completely cut out

Right now I sadly can't get a hold of the plugin, is there any way the both Sylenth LFO's can create the same tasks?

Sylenth LFO on square affecting the volume

isn't the xfer lfo plugin same thing as a gater? just brainstorming here... xD

The Gator effect on Traktor sounds exactly the same set on 16th's...

Was messing around on my virus today, here's my attempt at the sound:

I didn't automate the cutoff, but I think he had a supersaw that had the cuttoff envelope on it, which made his sound really powerful when he brought the cutoff up :)

Mostly, I made a pluck sound, with low sustain and no release and a 40% attack (so it's not just a pluck, but can breathe). I put the following effects on it: EQ (took out everything under 50 Hz), Chorus (analog @ 25% intensity), Bitcrusher distortion (20% intensity), delay (1/4th notes with 50% feedback), and reverb. It is a sine/saw wave that is arpeggiated at 1/16th notes, but the gate isn't very tight, which means the sound still has a "breathing" effect to it ;) let me know what you guys think! :D

Sounds really nice man! As you said, the missing thing is the automation on the cutoff and maybe some small tweaks, after that it's pretty much set!

Hey dude, that's some great stuff! But do you have a video of how to do it or something like that??

Post

nope, but you can pretty much follow this tutorial (link below) if you have the virus ti and then put on a 1/16th arpeggiator with a light gate so that it doesn't completely swallow the sound up, and that should pretty much do the trick my dude ;)

tutorial link:

he doesn't put effects such as the chorus on the sound during the tutorial, so you can read the effects that I put on it if you want.
