Morphing LFO's is fine to a point, but it needs to be limited. If you take it too far, it becomes indistinguishable from a random LFO. I'm just saying...Sendy wrote:I was fantasizing the other day about what an LFO would be like if it had the wavetable options of the oscillators. You could do some crazy beatlocked wibbles by morphing or x-fading between different harmonic sinewaves as an LFO, amongst many other exciting things. Many of my wavetables would be ideal for morphing LFOs... Is that kind of thing plausible for Zebra 3?
Will we die when Zebra3 will come out ?

@JJBiener: I have to disagree, for example, I have a wavetable which crossfades between individual triangle wave harmonics, i.e. the first wave is 1 cycle of a triangle, the next is 2 waves, etc. Using this as an LFO and sweeping the wave position would give a perfectly BPM-synched rate sweep, unlike modulating LFO rate directly which usually causes a potentially random phase unless you manage to switch rates at bang on 0 degrees. Other types of morph, such as morphing from a triangle to saw LFO can also be useful for sound effects. Sure, complex modulations would sound random, but in those cases you'd just choose to use a random LFO which would probably be less CPU intensive.
@Urs: I was sort of thinking along the lines of an LFO whose wave can be either one of the 4 oscillator wavetables, or an extra wavetable for the 'wave LFO', which you could then morph as you would an oscillator waveshape.

That's just one waveform. I think the guy meant having 16 morphable waveforms in the LFO. I agree it would be a bit of an overkill, but yes, Zebra needs more mappers (at least 4)!!Urs wrote:Like ACE's "tap the map"?Sendy wrote:I was fantasizing the other day about what an LFO would be like if it had the wavetable options of the oscillators.

Doesn't modulating an lfo, with another lfo do just that?Urs wrote:Morphing LFO waves? I might need to think about that...

Maybe not as controllable as what some need?mcnoone wrote:Doesn't modulating an lfo, with another lfo do just that?Urs wrote:Morphing LFO waves? I might need to think about that...

Disregard that, Urs. More mappers!

..or even osc waves. That'd indeed be useful!

It's all about the wacky ideas you can't do in normal synths

+1 for more mappers. (anyway, Urs said that there will be more)
and a challenging idea is to give us a bit more flexibility on those special OSCFX!
+ the ability to swap OSCFX + their modulations.... that would be great!
Think about it, some of the things that are special to Zebra are those OSCFX, so Zebra 3 sounds like a big update!

+1 for more mappers and please, please, please, chorus unit from Diva. I remember from beta it amazed me so much. Would be killing on some complex Zebra sounds!

Our internal Zebra build has 4 ModMappers. The Chorus unit will probably be pimped by Sascha before it makes entry into Zebra.FarleyCZ wrote:+1 for more mappers and please, please, please, chorus unit from Diva. Urs
So that means we need a faithful BBD thing? Boss-like voices with 60-degrees offset?
Any input welcome
