Just downloaded Reason 6.5 plus a couple of RE's from the shop...

It may not have the ease of use or the CV resonator inputs but the sound quality to my ears is much better. It costs $99 new and if you're set on the Reason platform (no VST) then I'd recommend that option over the new shiny RE.
I think that the Reason Pianos refills is one of the best value sampled Pianos I've tried, especially the "jazz" piano producer patches. Top notch!

New copies means "new" as in not upgrades. Which means PWYW wasn't included in those stats. Ernst made a point of underlining that.liquidsound wrote:At "Pay What You Want" upgrade deal, and I have seen on forum people pay almost nothing for it, that would move even ...... me :Dsaturdaysaint wrote:Props said that Reason 6 sold 2.5x as many new copies as any new previous new version of Reason (some of which were on store shelves for years).

Well then, we have to take his word for it. Perhaps the Record/Reason merging was the real deal for people even though we went from serial to dongle for reason 5.eXode wrote:New copies means "new" as in not upgrades. But for RE they will need to do it right, because it's not.

Reason has more global users than some want to acknowledge. Their products have been on the market for over a decade now, still thriving and will gain more global recognition when the Re technology is reviewed to the masses via blogs and magazines.saturdaysaint wrote:liquidsound wrote:saturdaysaint wrote: My hunch is that they're especially strong in pro circles (LA, Nashville, NYC), where a strong user community will essentially guarantee a thriving business.
To each their own on what they want to use but Reason has a very sizable global install base.
Combining Record with Reason was extremely popular.

Is it true that there's still no support for dragging audio into Reason?

If you mean dragging a .wav into a new track lane, then no -- that works just fine (at least on Reason 6).djanthonyw wrote:Is it true that there's still no support for dragging audio into Reason?

I really don't understand this "we lose our investment in RE's if Propellerheads goes under" mantra I read for people in this thread. I mean, it's EVERYWHERE! After Effects? Final Cut? Avid? It's a concept that is Niall different markets.
Wo really thinks that propellerheads is going away? I mean honestly, they've been around since Rebirth for cripes sake. They aren't going to fold up and close their doors. Sure, anything could happen, but I don't live my life not stepping out of my house because I could get hit by a flying manhole cover. I feel pretty good about both things not happening.
Also, how may plugins do you have that we're created in the original VST spec that dont work with your current DAW version? I have several and they just died. PH guarantee that they will work forever.
It seems like the same people have been griping about Reason for literally the last decade on this forum. That should tell you something about the longevity of the product itself.

Theo there are some limitation toward User Interface which prevent today developers from porting their stuff to Reason. Richard said it, U-he said it and Alchemy developers said it so i assume it's true. Also Prop employee confirmed it and he said they are working on upgrading SDK for this particular UI thing so it's on to do list.ttoz wrote:well if predator is being ported, i am sure dune can be.Richard_Synapse wrote:Pro-9 would be possible for sure, at least as a rackmount version (dunno if or how REs can interact with Reason's sequencer, but I'll ask them - would you like/need a 16- or 32-step sequencer?).kmonkey wrote:Richard is there any chance for Pro-9 and something as Dune as RE products?
Dune is more challenging to port, mostly in terms of UI complexity. At this point it doesn't seem to be possible/realistic to port it- but that may change, we'll have to see how the standard evolves. Right now would be too early anyway as we're working very hard on Dune 2
