Ah, dontcha just love someone who uses the word 'just' like that. Its that miracle word that renders all possible obstacles, no matter how significant, into meaningless trivialities... the grammatical embodiment of the Dunning-Kruger effect...myrna wrote:Let's say if one day I'll switch from DAW A to DAW B and want to tra sfer my songs, i just export the midis and arm the tracks with the same plugins.

seems reason fans live in the fear of crash... as if the only important element of a song is "that was made in a never crashing daw"?! I mean, i understand "the workflow" and all the bullshit, but I prefer to play my pianoteq in the buggy Logic than renounce it using the "rock solid" reason. Since I am not playing live, but just composing.

Just to be clear, RTAS is derivative of TDM. TDM plugin format was released THREE YEARS before VST. RTAS was only created as a host-based derivative of the TDM system in 1999 when they released the digi 001. When this occurred, TDM was already being supported in multiple hosts.myrna wrote:AU and RTAS/AAX are only derivative clones of VST. AU because of the apple's manthra "we are different, we are better, we think this and that"; RTAS because Protools had to accept and realize that steinberg's native technology works (see Nuendo), despite their expensive TDM hardware boards.
I'm not actually sure if there's been much in this thread you've said that hasn't been objectively incorrect.

You clearly don't do complex routing. It's not that easy. I have some tracks on 1/4" 8-track tape that I don't have access to. I think that this is more of a perceived concern than an actual concern.myrna wrote:Let's say if one day I'll switch from DAW A to DAW B and want to transfer my songs, i just export the midis and arm the tracks with the same plugins. It's not that difficult.
Finish your tracks, write the stems, save the midi to be chopped up independently later, and move on to new things!

TDM is not native. The inventor of native instruments (not the brand, the technology) was Steinberg in 1996.Robert Randolph wrote:Just to be clear, RTAS is derivative of TDM. and the goalposts, predictably, move again.myrna wrote:TDM is not native.
Except the VST standard didnt support MIDI input, and hence instruments, until 1999. Amusingly, NI had a native instrument' version of Reaktor out in 1998, but other software 'native instruments' were running before that, such as Reality in 1997, or Audio Architect which actually was on v4 in 1999.The inventor of native instruments (not the brand, the technology) was Steinberg in 1996.

Please Headquest; this is a 'Reason is awful in every way and they use dongles/no it isn't/yes it is' thread not an 'Arturia are awful in every way and they use dongles/no they aren't/yes they are' thread. Please don't confuse us all by bringing in another excellent product that the haters gotta hate.headquest wrote:Funny thing is, if Propellerhead *did* introduce VST support in (say) Reason 8.5, all the people who are currently anti-VST will be saying "WOW!! AWESOME!! Propellerheads are just freaking AMAZING!! THANK YOU!!" ... and stuff like that.
Some people just like whatever Propellerhead do, and that's fine.
For my part, while you people were debating how much you love or hate VST, I've been playing around with Arturia's Minimoog synth - a $229 VST that they just gave away for free!! Funny thing is that having used Reason for so many years I've generally not tried that many VST alternatives. But trying this today I'm thinking ... wow - this really is great. The sound it makes is way better than any of the synths in Reason, for sure. And <shock horror> it hasn't caused my laptop to have BSOD a single time yet
But yes; Arturia make some great stuff.
