Hey guys.

Been using tracktion 1 for quite some time, and decided to buy Tracktion 3 (never got to use tracktion 2).

Now i got Tracktion 3 installed, and its working like a charm.. Almost!

I find myself having HUGE snapping issues with clips. Snapping works, and sometimes it DOES snap right, but most of the times (let say i mark single drum that i wanna c/p for 64 beats, if the drum only takes up "half" a beat, then theres a half beat empty, and then another kick. In tracktion 1 i could just Copy/Paste that single beat and it would automaticly allign with each beat.

I noticed that when doing this in tracktion 3, it just alligns the beats to whatever snapping point is closest instead of alligning correctly on the track.

Sometimes i even fidn myself having a midi clip with a nice melody, then i wanna throw that melodi in the track underneath, but if i copy paste to the "start" point (alligned with the one above) and i zoom in, the clip is moved like 0.00001 cm from the original position, making it IMPOSSIBLE to snap it to the correct location! :?

Iv'e totally giving up on tracktion 3, just because of this issue.. It takes forever just to create a 4x4 beat section with a percussion loop because i have to disable snapping then move all and each single beat, sound etc, to a correct location.

Im not that much of a "loop" person, so i just copy paste the stuff instead, keeping better track of it, and if i need a single beat silence, its easy just to cut that away from the track.


Im really hoping someone can help me with this problem so i can get my clips to allign correctly.. Maybe there's something im missing, or maybe there's a fix? :roll:

Im running:

Windows 7 x64 on a Powerful computer (so that aint the issue either)

Tracktion 3 has been installed in serveral diffrent windows versions (and a clean format each time) for testing. Problem still occurs.

Help MUCH appriciated since im actually thinking of switching to another DAW...:cry: But loved Tracktion 1 (problem with T1 tho is the age, the support - so not gonna be using that anymore).

Also got the issue in the midi editor as in the normal track editor (working with wav's etc)

Im zoomed ALL the way in on the picture, as you can see, the note dosnt snap to a grid when Copy/Pasted. Tracktion 1 did this move with no trouble at all.

You do know Traktion is not supported at all anymore?
Its a dead product abandoned by Mackie years ago.
As you say, youre better off finding yourself a new DAW.

Yeah im aware.. but i really like tracktion, thats why im still (trying) to use it.

Anyways, could you recommend a DAW thats similar to tracktion? I like the whole idea of having everything @ a "single window" instead of the Fruity loops kinda layout.

I have been looking for a replacement for Tracktion for years.
Studio One V2 is indeed very nice.... of course I prefer Tracktion and I will keep using it... but at least I have someting to turn to when I will have to "upgrade".

CPU usage on Studio One is not as great as Tracktion.
I also found some odd CPU behavior in certain situation.
I wish it had "Run in Realtime Priority" setting like in Tracktion(you can still do it manually)
Tracktion style rack would be nice too....

There is another DAW I keep my eye on:
Harrison MixBus
Very cool but not full featured yet.... NO MIDI for starters... but it's supposedly coming.
Nothing like Tracktion, It's more like hardware but it's made with a lot of sense. (demo version has been discontinued... :cry: now you either buy it or go on a monthly subscription fee!!)
Oh well it's Harrison.... so they can get away with it.
Awesome EQ's and Tape saturation built in.

Mackie as a company are a disgrace.

They promised future support,fixes and upgrades when trying to sell off the last of their T3 stock knowing full well they were going to ditch the product.

Same thing already happened with the DXB console and the MDR/SDR/HDR HD recorders,yet Alesis still seem to be selling there HDR's quite nicely.

Mackie are professional a-holes and I would and indeed did drop any and all their products in a heart beat,especially Tracktion.

Go with something like Reaper and you've got a great company with continuous support,huge user base and a wonderfull business ethos.

Mackie suck big time and that includes their (so loved)HR monitors too.

Midi is fubar in tracktion 3.
That includes recording it, editing it, and creating it.
T1 is what I use for editing or creating midi lines.
Studio one makes itself Look good by being pretty, but unlike tracktion, does not have a streamlined workflow.

Depends on your needs, of course but Im an Ableton Live user.
All in one interface, easy drag and drop and no glitching or dropout when adding devices while playing. It really is geared for live use.
if you do a lot of midi stuff you may need to supplement lives midi tools as theyre pretty basic
