I looking for a good EQ. And both FabFilter Pro-Q and Melda MAutoDynamicEq has been reviewed with high marks.

Melda has a sale right now, making MAutoDynamicEq extremely good value.
But i guess Fabfilter will also have a sale soon.

What do you think?
Has anyone used both for longer time?

Demoed Pro-Q for quite sometime and i like it, but i ends up getting equality due to its lower cpu usage.

If you can get beyond the sometimes boring GUI, all the stuff from Melda Production are top notch. So my answer is to just demo it.

Pro-Q takes a lot of beating.Very flexible and the GUI is great and enjoyable too use.

Pro-Q is a plain parametric EQ with (IIRC) 64 bands at your disposal.

MAutoDynamicEQ is mainly aimed at dynamic EQing (which is hard to learn) - it is limited to 7 bands (plus two LP/HP filters).

If you need something that is flexible, get Pro-Q or Equality.
If you're in need of dynamic filtering from time to time, take a look at MAutoDynamicEQ. But brace yourself for a very steep learning courve.

i prefer pro q mainly for is simplicity in design. makes me want to use it, while other eqs have more of a "must tell myself to use this more" feel. pro q is fun!

The Pro-q gui gets to me after a while, not as fun. Prefer EQuality, filters seem slightly smoother to me too.

Pro-Q is my go-to EQ for nearly everything. Brilliant UI, excellent M/S implementation, pre/post-EQ RTA, more bands than I've ever needed, lots of filter types, scroll-wheel control, negligible CPU consumption, etc. The band solo feature is killer. Honestly, I can't think of anything that FF could do to improve it.

I have and use both plugins. They are very different from one another, so one is not a substitute for the other.

Pro-Q is my go-to track and bus EQ because it's quick and easy to use. It's no more capable than any of a dozen other equalizers and in fact lacks in features compared to, say, Voxengo GlissEQ. The attraction with Pro-Q is the comfortable ergonomics, which make using it a pleasant and painless experience. The same could be said for Pro-C and Pro-L.

Dynamic equalizers are, IMO, remedial effects for problem tracks with resonance issues. MDynamicEQ (the less-expensive sibling to MAutoDynamicEQ) is just as effective for those applications. I use it primarily on vocals and bass.

I wouldn't wait for a Fabfilter sale, as that's a rare event. FF works on a different discount model, wherein prices go down as you acquire more FF products. There is also a referral program that awards credits to existing customers who refer new customers, who get a 10% discount.

You provided some good info.

I allready have Fabfilter Volcano, Timeless and Twin II, so I'm familiar with the user interface. And I agree that Fabfilter has this nailed.

I will have a look at EQuality also.

With MAutoDynamicEq, I was tempted by its 'auto' aspect.
Is this just a gimmick?

I also read that you could use MAutoDynamicEq as a 'normal' 7 band Eq, bypassing the dynamic feature?

"Auto" EQ is like EQ-matching: sounds good in principle, but pretty useless in practice except for special circumstances.

And yes, you can also use these as normal parametrics because you can adjust the amount of dynamic response from full-on to none and everything in between, individually for each band. So you could, for example, use the dynamic feature on just low frequencies while leaving the upper bands functioning as a regular equalizer. Or assign a band to be dynamic just for the 5-8khz region and use it as a de-esser.

Meldas stuff is mostly awesome once you figure out how to use it.

Check out their 'Rythemersizer' or whatever it is. Its like an LFOTool on roids, and it does not get mentioned half as much.
I think their MB Distortion kicks out some nice sounds, but it often doesnt get mentioned with the other big ones.

At least they stopped using only faders.
