Ah sorted then, but are there any other things apart from the 'cover' rule that ought to go to a rules vote? Maybe outlaw buffer effects?

But would that not technically outlaw delay effects since they must operate by a buffer? I would most certainly not vote for a rule that would potentially outlaw delays, as it would dramatically affect the sonic appeal of the tracks...V'ger wrote:Maybe outlaw buffer effects?

Yes you're right of course, didn't think about that. My point was to get at glitch type effects which does creative things with the buffer. Of course I guess it could technically be covered by the sampling rule that already exists, but maybe something put in place to avoid confusion.

So it doesn't get lost in the internet... ran across another synth that looks and sounds good (from the demo), though donationware:
MauSynth: http://rinki.net/pekka/mausynth/
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work with Reaper on Linux/WINE.

Or the 'significantly alters the sound' rule. You could just put a blurb about "this includes things like glitch-style effects."V'ger wrote:... to get at glitch type effects which does creative things with the buffer... could technically be covered by the sampling rule...

a doubt (and a suggestion as well).
Does this one have ever been cogitated to the OSC?

Yes an added line about glitch effects might be enough.
MauSynth is definitely interesting but maybe a bit fresh on the shelf to have all wrinkles ironed out, and BR808 loads full wav samples so would have to check every project file if it was to be used..

Any thoughts about using multiple DAWs? This could take the form of either (a) one DAW hosting the other (e.g., via Rewire), or (b) using one DAW to create some tracks, saving them as audio files, and importing into the other DAW for further processing/mixing. There are some scenarios where this might be handy. Examples:
- During the Minimogue competition we saw that the synth was not stable on some DAWs. One could use the DAW with more stability to generate the raw synth tracks, and add their favorite effects from their more regular DAW.
- As much as I like my main DAW, Sonar, it is lacking a pretty basic feature: driving multiple synths from the same MIDI track (e.g., for layering synths) *. Including, say, Reaper, as a Rewire instrument and layering synths within Reaper might simplify the workflow.
In order to prevent any unfair advantage, we can have a rule indicating that if multiple DAWs are used, effects from only one DAW are permitted (in addition to free and available effects of course).
* Footnote: For layering synths I know about the suggested workaround by Sonar with multiple MIDI track copies; it is a silly and awkward workaround.

You can use VSTforx to layer synths in Sonar. I do use it at time and it works flawlessly. It's in beta but still stable. You can get it for free at below:adagiocm wrote: * Footnote: For layering synths I know about the suggested workaround by Sonar with multiple MIDI track copies; it is a silly and awkward workaround.

@satYatunes: Thanks, this is very helpful. I tried it, and it seems to work well with Minimoog-V. One quick question though: I didn't find a way to load/save fxp/fxb files. This is not an issue with Minimoog-V, but how do you load presets to the synths that do not have a native way to load/save presets?

When you right click on the VST then there is an option called "Programs". This does not work for Minimoog so the only option left is bring up the VST screen and load it from there. In order to do so:
1. Click on the arrow icon on top left of the window (it also says USE on it)
2. Then click on the "e" at center of the handle (the one that represents your VST on the screen)
Not a very sophisticated tool though.
Here is another tool that lets you do routing/layering etc. I don't like it much though. You can try it.

Yes can include that as a topic in the upcoming rules vote.adagiocm wrote:In order to prevent any unfair advantage, we can have a rule indicating that if multiple DAWs are used, effects from only one DAW are permitted
About free VST chainers there's also EffectChainer and MultiFXVST.

Correct me if I am wrong but those allow chaining VST effects only not instruments.
