Hi Vojtech,
I notice a strange problem with your plugins.
When I use one of your plugs my Nuendo cursor will become very sluggish and jumpy.
As soon as I close the GUI everything's back to normal.
I'm on OS X 10.6.8 and Nuendo 5.5.3. (64 bit)

Hi Ollie,
well, drawing on Mac is and was a problem, but so far I didn't notice anything like this. I'll ask Steinberg to check it out as I don't have a copy of Nuendo here. I'm not so surprised there are problems as Mac versions of Steinberg products are pretty new and not really "bug-free" yet.

Thanks for the quick reply.MeldaProduction wrote:Hi Ollie,

The thing is that you must be doing something differently than most other devs, since I don't notice such problems with other plugins. The fabfilter Pro Q for example does quite a lot of action in it's FFT window, yet the scrolling in Nuendo remains smoother when opened.

Yes, the question is what. On Macs the situation is a little bit, well, undefined, so everyone does it different way and there is lots going on in our plugins.
Anyway all plugins do that, or just some, or in specific circumstances?

I did a quick check and found out that it seems to be limited to plugs the do a lot of drawing (like the MAutoDynamicEQ or the MAnalyzer) especially in the sonogram view. It also seems to be realted to the actual size of the plugin.MeldaProduction wrote:Yes, the question is what. iZotope do a plugin called Ozone Meter bridge that offers a sonogram view as well and Nuendo stays smooth when opening it, even if it's full screen.
Maybe this is something that can be solved.
Thanks for listening, your stuff is pretty awsome, by the way

As a potential new Mac customer (evaluating MMultibandGranular and Creative Bundle while July sale is on), that has certainly now given me great concern and reservation!!!ttoz wrote:I am starting to see a pattern here "sorry but i am not surprised, it is a mac problem or your host is broken"
Kind of glad i am not a customer now... i had utmost respect for you Vojtech and usually talk highly of your stuff but your mac support to actual customers is well, i won't go there.. very disappointing.
If you are going to blame the platform for everything maybe it's time to stop coding for it
I have been experiencing Logic crashes and over-the-top CPU usage with MMultiband Granular, have only just begun a support dialog concerning this but in my final judgement I will be keeping this unanswered? concern foremost in my decision making process along with whatever personal experience I have in next weeks before sale ends.
Given I have over 500 pro plug-ins working fine I have little tolerance for ambiguous blame on Logic, I am well aware of it's quirks but also have very dependable performance overall with some VERY demanding plug-ins.
Hoping the impetus for above quote turns out to be the exception, and not the rule

Sorry ttoz, but I have to reply here - I'm personally also a Mac customer and I use the highest version of Cubase for recording and last time I did that about (4 weeks ago, newest version that time), it wasn't exactly stable. And I'm not surprised, Cubase isn't there for that long.ttoz wrote:could be related to the problem i had in logic.
Cubase on OSX just to set the record straight here is a flawless almost bug free piece of software and i have no idea where Vojtech got info otherwise. (nuendo current release codebase is the same)

And regarding Macs, sorry, but I'm pretty familiar with technical stuff inside Macs and I'm the one solving the general compatibility problems with Mac OS X, therefore I feel pretty confident about my judgements. There is some obsolete statement that Macs are ultraquick and ultrastable, which is just not true for a long time anymore and the most probably reason is that there actually is some software for it now, which is the typical indicator of how well a system performs.
In general, I'm not saying Mac OS X is unusable, but I'm not going to say it's stable when it's not. There are some good things about it though...

Crashes should definitely not happen. Do you use the final 7.00 version? If so, do you see any specific behaviour which leads to a crash?Loopy C wrote: As a potential new Mac customer (evaluating MMultibandGranular and Creative Bundle while July sale is on), that has certainly now given me great concern and reservation!!!

CPU usage is a problem here - first, you can increase buffer sizes, usually it makes no sense to use less then 128 and it makes a big differents. Anyway with a few bands and several voices in each, some modulation, transformation... it just has to take some CPU. But on my personal Windows i7 machine it didn't go above 10% and usually was about 1-2%. I'll check some other computers.

I use Nuendo 5.5.3 (and Cubase LE) on various macs in different studios.MeldaProduction wrote:

Cannot reproduce stability problems on any machine. In fact I make my living using these DAWs.

I got the de-bug version, thanks. In the meantime, here is what it does with the preset 'Outdoors', completely pegging CPU meter...is this similar to what you get there with that preset? Of note, NO other plug-ins, one single audio track looping and MMultiband Granular only.
. As you can see, I have very large buffer and processing settings. Similar behavior on laptop and desktop, these are from 2.8 GHz i7 MacBook Pro running 10.6.8.

I am VERY happy to report an initial test of same preset in recent 7.03 update has SIGNIFICANTLY cut cpu usage for Granular here on 10.5.8 machine ('Outdoor' was previously maxed out at 100% and is now peaking at less than 20%)
...GREAT job and BIG thanks!
