Actually, adding another dimension to this, how many (or few...) of the "begins" one?
Here is a (legal) stream of the complete Dark Knight Rises soundtrack: http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=34498 :)

The soundtrack has of course nothing to do with this thread :hihi:

Cool. Is it out yet?

Our VST3 support has a few quircks still, but can't be long until we get there.

Beta testing rightnow.

Would you happen to know whether VST3 can automatically replace the VST 2.4 versions? I'm just curious because if Ableton Live allows VST3 one day, I wonder if current projects will load a VST as VST3 that was previously saved as VST2.4. That was the case with the VST2 versions but I don't know what happened from V1 to V2.

Unfortunately this stream lacks the last 3 tracks that are announced on iTunes, including "The End", a Zebra-only track :-|

Nobody, and I mean nobody (ok maybe John Powell who was also part of HZ team at some point) does string ostinatos like Hans.

+1

Yet everyone tries it. I haven't heard a single movie soundtrack in the last few years which didn't try to incorporate the Zimmier-ish ostinato.

so when its done, which do you think will have the better performance/usability?

I think there won't be much of a difference here. VST3 is crossplatform, AU is wider adopted across the Mac platform.

Our preset format will be read by either, so I don't think there's any significant disadvantage.

When automating stuff in drop down menus then I would vote for AU.

Urs wrote:Well, I guess VST2 isn't necessarily a pain for others. Our framework and workflow is just really complex and caters for complex plugins. We can't just change that in a week or two, and so far it didn't even cross my mind that further VST2 support is needed on Mac.
This is very at odds with the Reaper devs attitude, they can't see any reason to support VST3, and Reaper's au support is not as good as its vst2 support.

I don't actually have an opinion about plugin formats, but I wish that the makers of the software I use together could agree with each other on priorities and direction.

Diva au doesn't work right on reaper for me at the moment. When playing the plugin live it tends to silence itself after a few notes. Also stuck note issues on playback. So I can't use 64 bit reaper. Not sure if this matters to me or not yet. Also not sure if the problem is reaper or diva or both.

I really wish I could find a combination of software where the devs were all heading in the same direction...

There's quite a few people using reaper and u-he synths together - it seems like some discussion between U-he and cockos would be worthwhile (maybe you already do this?)

I guess switching to windows would solve the issue, i'm fed up with apple's attempts to control everything i do. But I've been a mac user since 1988 so it would be a big change, and windows is not exactly an attractive alternative.

I may be getting offtopic here, but will major plugin devs ever support linux? I realise linux isn't really a viable platform yet, due to the lack of a decent DAW, but plugin support would sure help drive DAW development.

I'm glad to see VST3/64bit on my Mac and uhbik too ;)

Answered somebody JBridge and Mac? Yes, there's a beta version which runs ok on my Mac. My workaround with Diva, Zebra and ACE is to host it in VSL Ensemble Pro.

Sorry (sort of) for the thread necro, but was the VST3 version of DIVA actually released in the past month? I can't find anything documented, but of course I may have easily missed it...

Thanks

Post

I think there are only VST3 beta versions of ACE and Uhbik so far.

Maybe VST3 DIVA will show up with the arrival of Cubase7?

Post

VST3 Diva is working nicely here, but we use ACE and Uhbik to do general testing. It's difficult to do otherwise.

What is the current timetable for 64 bit mac vst version of zebra? I have perused this thread and I could have missed something but AFAI could tell only the 64 bit au version is released - correct?
