Customers who bought it 4 months ago as early adopters got the product for 4 months!! longer than everyone else.

This is generally how sales work... You buy it early, you pay more but get use of it before anyone else.

Case in point: I bought an mp3 player at 150 USD 1 day after it was released knowing full well the same item would be 30-50 dollars less within 6 months. But I was OK with that because I wanted it now!! and knew I'd pay a premium to have it now.

I also wait for movies and PC games to age a little to drop in price.. it doesn't take much time... usually a few months before there are limited time sales cropping up.

Audio software is not and should not be shielded from the same effects of the economy.
I get your point, but I disagree. :) There's a difference in how markets work and how customers are attached to a product and a company. Anyway, I may have complained one time too many now over this Etch-sale thing, so I'll wrap it up. No need to clutter this thread with more complaints, so in that way I agree with you :)

Cheers.

If only people weren't so naive.. yes, it's great to get "free" stuff! As Munchkin says, there's nothing for free. Even a simple "like us on facebook to have a one in a million chance to win some tool" isn't free! What you give them is power in the form of exposure and recognition. Do you want to give them that because they make good tools or because you want something "free"?
Isolated there's nothing to argue about. But if you're (un?)fortunate to be able to see the bigger picture, then there's things to stay sleepless over.

Luckily more people seem to understand the bad things about "no brainers". At least parts of it. If you can't, then i guess you're the winner in our ever growing society. Ignorance is bliss.

A friend of mine told me how a phonecompany had called him and offered a free phone. He "only" had to sign up for 24 months paying an additional charge of a month. I congratulated him and didn't even bother to ask him how much 15x24 is. I've seen enough of "oh, am i really this dumb?!" faces when pointing such things out.

All these intro, no brainers and group buys is just a marketing thing. Fender (guitar company) gives you cash back directly when buying one of their guitars. Why? Why would they not just lower the prices and save the poor clerks and customers the trouble?
High price = quality. How can something being expensive not be good?! Certain jeans costing much more than others naturally are of better quality.
It's painful to see these things. Whenever you buy something, you know there's a child or a person living under slave like conditions, starving just so you can get something cheap. In capitalism you decide how you want things with your wallet.
Buy fair trade but expensive banana or buy cheap and see [close eyes]?
[Force open eyes] -> Ah yes, the workers wear no protection against the unenviromentalfriendly poison to keep the crickets away (or whatever). Can you ask a person eating a banana like that if he knows what he's doing? "Come on, it's just a banana!"

So what do you respond when someone mocks you for questioning motives behind "free"?

Dont get me wrong. I enjoy Etch and BFD Echo a lot. Etch was a no brainer, BFD Echo some 50% price sale. The free compressor sounds really nice.
I would LOVE to hear your logic behind these sales. How do you value your products? If i were to insure them (pretending they're physical), what should i tell the insurance company they're worth? That i got them for half the price but they're actually worth the double?

Can't you just keep it simple? "This is how much it's worth, this is how much it will cost - always."
It feels like the marketing of cellphones. "Get three months free, pay after two years, get a free phone, miss a payment and your dept will be ten times more. This deal is special for you, and only for today."

:help: :?

You all sure like to complain about anything you can.

Creating and running a successful software development company is amazingly hard. Marketing software is challenging, especially when the marketing "rules" change almost daily now. There is way more to running a successful audio software development company than the KVRmChair Quarterbacks might imagine. From what I can see fxpansion is doing a great job running their own company.

If you don't want the free stuff then STFU and shuffle on, but don't whine about the conditions for the free stuff. The endless bitching is nauseating.

Personally, I'm very thankful for the free compressor. fxpansion makes absolutely top notch plugins. I really appreciate the great deal on Etch. And to top it all off, I wan't really too upset by having to pay a $50 transfer fee when I sold Geist because it sold in about 2 seconds. Generally fxpansion seems like they try to do the right thing by their customers.

What is it that you people do in your parent's basement that makes you so miserable?

Yes.. this is the way to get people to understand, and perhaps agree with, your viewpoint: attempt to offend them. :ud:

+1 Most of the stuff I use was full price, some of it I managed to get in a sale or a freebie deal. I don't resent paying full price (wouldn't have done it if I didn't think it was worth it) but I do appreciate the bargains - what's the problem?

I bought Etch RE just before the Etch "no-brainer" was announced so I suppose I should be on here bitching about how Propellerheads are evil for not selling REs at iphone app prices and FXpansion are evil for having a sale on Etch, C/R freebies etc etc. Instead, I just got the Etch VST for peanuts for use in Reaper - nobody is holding a gun to anybody's head and I really don't see why so many people are getting their panties in a twist over this.

There is something sick about the constant complaining here on KVR. Just sayin. If that makes me an "Omnitroll" so be it.

Getting back to the plugins does anyone have any thoughts on how they stack up against other compressors? Are they meant to be emulations of hardware or something new? The price seems pretty good if they're as good as or better than some of the more expensive compressors out there.

Must be popular, the website's down. :(

Those damn freeloaders keeping us FXpansion completeists from demoing something new. :x

So stop adding to the complaint culture myth you've invented then.

I can't get to the website either, but "Funkybot's Evil Twin" posted this to another thread:
You can also check out the new Fxpansion version of the 1176 that came out in the DCAM Dynamics Bundle. You also get an SSL style compressor there a multiband compressor and a great envelope shaper.

Hey, look I'm being quoted from other threads! But yeah, the Channel Comp is an 1176 and the BusComp is an SSL. These are updated versions of what's in BFD2. Glad to finally see these out. I desperately needed a good Envelope Shaper too.
