Sound, comparisons etc .. There's a lot of bus compressors out rite now, what does this bring to the table of circuit modeled bus compressors soundwise. Better circuit emulations etc? Also some graphs would be nice just for the sake of it :) Aliasing etc .. Heheheheheh
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

Dude, try out the demos. CrossComp brings some really cool stuff to the table.

Yes, this is frustrating. I've asked a number of times if people more experienced with compressors could do some comparisons or comment on the sound quality.

Instead it's turned into a silly 'what you can and can't complain about' thread just because a couple of people moaned about having to auth a so-called "free" plugin.

I've noticed on other forums this growing phenomenon of attacking anyone complaining about marketing strategies. This phenomenon seems to be primarily of US origin and is usually perpetuated by those who've bought into the neoliberal myth that the market should dictate the moral and ethical framework of our lives - anyone complaining about this is the enemy of unfettered free trade regardless of its cost to humanity.

I sincerely hope that we can nip this moralistic clap trap in the bud before KVR is taken over by the Tea Party.

i'm a total noob when it comes to compressors. tried the freecomp sounded nice. swapped for dc8c - tweaked some, sounded the same to me ;)

Out of where did you pull that idea?

What if we are Tea party members and are against the complaining here over free and price-reduced products hmm? I don't think you should let your political position blind your view that people can generally be greedy and want as much as they can get with as little effort as possible.

It has nothing to do about red or blue.. tea party.. American.. neoliberals.. or myths in general.. just basic, human greed underneath.

So, to summarize:

I wanted to hear about the plugins, but people are complaining about the marketing, so let's blame the U.S., cast them all as stereotypes of one minority political party, and complain about that instead?

How about we all just keep our senses and talk about the plugins? :D

Demoed for a little while and am very impressed. Love the interfaces and extra options like saturation, oversampling, mix level, bias, sidechain listen, quick midi learn, etc...

Quick thoughts -
Channel Comp - seems to me like a classic 1176. I've never used the hardware, only emulations like waves and ik. I think this is as good as any I've tried. Really like the flexibility that the bias knob gives. Not sure why this is the only comp without saturation...

BusComp - Compared it to the PSP BusCompressor that I've been demoing and thought it was just as good. I guess I would give the edge to the FXpansion because of the extra features and interface.

EnvShaper - Compared this to the Cubase envelope shaper. FXpansion crushes it. Sidechain, saturation, and mix level are great to have here. The sustain and bias controls work amazingly well together. A bit more flexibility with the attack length might be nice, but I think this is a winner.

CrossComp - Wow, so much to try with this. Lots of features, and very intuitive layout. Getting great results from a mix buss just by messing around. Nice to have all the listening options. Inverting the phase on the pass through and messing with the X-Over is fun. This is one of the most interesting compressors I've ever tried. I'm not exactly sure how I would use it - sidechaining is one of the first things that comes to mind - but I think some great results could be had from experimenting.

IMO CrossComp is worth the asking price alone ... capable of a lot more than "just" compression. The rest of the plugins round out a very versatile package :)

Peace,
Andy.

The original concept behind Crosscomp was to give people much of the tone design potential of a multiband, without the massive plethora of controls and the tendency to sound like a broken EQ if you're not very methodical with it.

So whereas we'd see a true multiband comp having its typical use case being careful, methodical adjustment late in the signal chain (very often the master bus), Crosscomp was intended for more extreme tone design early in the signal chain, with a considerably lower knob count so you've less potential to go wrong.

Really it can be used any time it's interesting to adjust the envelope characteristics of one part of the spectrum & leave the rest alone. It's nice on individual drum tracks - especially acoustic kicks and snares, set the crossover frequency to just above the fundamental and have independent control of the "oomph" and the "air"; on bass guitar, especially those with a decent amount of twang in the upper mid; and it's great inserted after a reverb on an aux return to do weird and wonderful things to the room character.

Other things it's good for? Get a drum loop, acoustic drum part, or an ambient drum bus; put the compressor on a high-ratio, squash-the-heck-out-of-it setting, set pass-thru to "IN" and comp to "high", and crossover frequency to 1.5k. Then just mix in a bit of squashed, saturated HF with the thru signal.
This account is dormant, I am no longer employed by FXpansion / ROLI.

Find me on LinkedIn or elsewhere if you need to get in touch.

You are the one getting all 'political', Mr Pot-Kettle. Do you wanna keep that garbage off here please?

I don't mean to be rude by saying, but in this instance, observe how you might come across to others with your irrelevant political speech.

Btw do you have plans to reduce the cpu usage? I like it, if it's optimized more i'll definitely get it.

Fxspansion stuff is all - always - high quality. It also uses a lot of CPU (if you don't have much).End of story. Thanks Angus for the free goodie!
