From another thread,
satYatunes wrote:not sure what happened to those [patch] contests.
And as I also received a PM'd on the same subject, here's where I'm at:

Ensuring sufficient interest to make each contest worthwhile requires a fair amount of effort and that has always fallen on the shoulders of the contest organiser (me). Now, the time involved in setting up a contest I don't mind at all, but having to then cajole people into taking part always left me wondering if the whole idea was really worth the candle.

And that has been underlined by those occasions where the number of entries for a particular contest has been very low.

So, in summary - organising the contests is hard work. Having to then spend a lot of energy publicising them is the straw that breaks this camel's back. :(

Thoughts?

Agreed. Maybe we should do it on Facebook instead? Or somehow involve those things a bit more?

Yeah - I don't use Facebook myself, but it's an idea.

NO Facebook pls! :P

We can change this thread into a poll asking if ppl would be interested in a contest or simply ask them to post their opinions here.

I can also help organizing if needed and even throw in some prizes as well! :)

I miss the u-he patch contests also!

I don't think Urs was suggesting that that the contests be run solely through FB?

Yes, opinions please.

i suppose, there are too many people like me, who do patches for the contest first, but then don't think, they're good enough and finally don't enter the contest. we should just participate, because the contest is great and i always like the resulting patches a lot.

Somehow at the back of my mind, I knew that you would reply to my note on the other thread :-) I was thinking of sending a PM too, not only for the contest but just to check how you are doing cause I didn't see you in any thread since the Diva patch contest. So, how are you doing? Enjoying the summer?

It's really sad to see such low interest for these contests. Diva contest was an exception I guess. It's an opportunity to win any one of the U-he plugins, what more one can ask. If that does not motivate people to join then I don't know what will. We can use FB as an additional publicity medium but not sure if that's going to help much. I have seen more FB haters here than anywhere else, but there is no harm in trying. May be adding prizes for second, third place would help. Now that 3ee is willing to throw in some prizes we can reach out to other developers if they would help. Just an idea.

As far as help in organizing, etc. you can count me in.

We haven't had one so far - been the rainiest April to June on record - but apart from that fine, thanks. :)

And you?

Umm, yeah, I'm firmly in the FB sceptic camp. ;)

Maybe we should get a number of commitments. If it is about 15 or so is that enough?

Yeah, we've done that in that past.

The problem isn't so much the level of participation per se - it's the amount of effort required on my part, above and beyond setting up each contest, to ensure a minimum level of participation.

Spend enough time publicising each contest and the desired participation is probably achievable; but enough time is often too much time, from my pov.

The best participation was, I think, on the Tyrell free-for-all contest. Freeware synth + any patch idea meant a lot of new faces tried to win.

I would like to see the contests come back too and I agree getting participation is difficult. I have less and less time these days to do the back-end work, something hakey was more than helpful to shoulder the load.

I wish that it was easier to get people to understand u-he synths let you save presets in demo mode and if your sound wins you get one of them for free!

What synth would this be for?

The new Zebra HZ would be good. :)

Oh forgive me I've been in the bat cave too long.

I am doing good. Thx. May be you can split some of the work with other volunteers. publicity stuff, creating threads, etc. I can create the draft thread in a doc and send it to you which you can review and post. I am willing to help anyway I can. If I had something to throw in as prize I would have, unfortunately I use only free plugins and a few NFRs. It was really fun that's why I miss it.
