If there is a compressor shootout to be done, and I hope there is, it really seems like DMG Audio Compassion really deserves to be in there.
DMG Audio's Compassion actually covers everything in the DCAM dynamics pack (which sound great), and the NI UAD IK 1176 emulations, and then some. In my opinion Compassion's GUI is the best of the bunch, and revisiting the demo I'm able to get really good sounding compression rather quickly.

I've only tried the FreeComp and it is really good, actually it sounds much better than expected. I compared it to The Glue, which is my first option for that type of compression, and it preserves transients much more though apparently it doesn't like high GR levels, it's weak on that part as far as I can tell (unless its meter isn't telling the truth which is possible since 5dB sounds like 9dB or something). I like the way it grabs the signal and I'm thinking about keeping it but the C/R protection is holding me back. I'll use it in another session tomorrow and decide but so far, it is, in my humble opinion, The Glue's greatest contender.
The whole suite looks very good and I'll definitely keep it on my list, maybe for next year (CrossComp and EnvShaper look very interesting).
Cheers

Wow, sounds great! I have to admit that I'm tempted. If only there was a loyal customer discount or so. I have almost everything FXp sells.

Will dealers be selling this?

antithesist - generally no. A select few may sell it as downloads at some point in the future, but it's not a channel-wide boxed product.

After demoing those comps I couldn't resist and bought those beauties. They are really excellent.
BTW: a BIG FAT THANKS to the FX pansion support to react so positively to the special request I had.

The envelope shaper is really great. One of the few env shapers I have tested that simply work without distortion and other unwanted stuff.

Finally got around to download the demo, so I'll answer my own question:Breakpete wrote:Are these plugins zero latency?
I did a quick test of BusComp, ChanComp and EnvShaper in Renoise, and found they had 2 - 3 samples of latency using the default quality setting (2x oversampling).

Breakpete - sounds about right for 2x oversampling. Generally speaking the only time it's significant is is if you're doing full-band parallel compression, in which case it's best to use the comps' internal mixers for wet/dry rather than a bypass path in the host.

Perhaps someone from FXpansion give a some more accurate information, but I believe are using a non-linear phase oversampler with around 4.18 samples of delay at DC which increases to around 70 samples at the highest frequency. The only way to compensate for this latency in your DAW is to run all tracks / buses through the same number of non-linear phase oversampling filters as each other, which has to be done manually.Breakpete wrote:Finally got around to download the demo, so I'll answer my own question:Breakpete wrote:Are these plugins zero latency?

Here is the plot of the amplitude response (top graph) and latency (bottom graph called "group delay") for the x2 filters in Synth Squad for a base sample rate of 44.1 kHz:
