Is it a bad time to buy Zebra?

I mean it seems to be a very interesting synth, but now that I saw this forum and realized it's not 64 bit in OSX (will it be?) and everybody is talking about Zebra3, it's not sensible to buy it. Or will there be a some kind of grace period?

I'd actually say this is one of the best times to buy Z2!
The number of soundsets (free and commercial) is amazing. Just look at these pages:
http://u-he.com/PatchLib/commercial.html#zebra
http://u-he.com/PatchLib/zebra.html
There is a vibrant community of users here (and other places). Even with Z3 being talked about it's highly likely Z2 will be with us for several more years.
[EDIT: Urs posted the same info in a more official format below]
And don't forget, If you qualify for the Dinosaur Crossgrade you can knock $50 off the price of Z2 making that upgrade price pretty-much disappear.

64 bit VST3 is still coming (but we had loads of other thinsg to attend to lately).
Now... here's the deal (without 100% warranty)
Zebra2 = 199$
Upgrade to Zebra3 = 30$
Zebra3 without upgrade = 249$
-> buy now and save 20$ + get Zebra2
Also, upgrade to Zebra3 from Z2 + The Dark Zebra = 0$
This may change slightly over time, and it certainly depends on how long we need, but basically it's the plan and it's relatively set in stone.
In any case, now is the time. We might not be selling Zebra2 anymore once Zebra3 is out. We also promise to support Zebra2 on all platforms for as long as it's viable, i.e. as long as computer hardware can deal with our framework and our framework evolves into something that's still compatible with Zebra2 code. Can't see anything too bad happeing within the next 10 years.
Cheers,
Urs

Correct, but there is also a VST3 coming that is 64 bit.bmrzycki wrote:I'd actually say this is one of the best times to buy Z2!The number of soundsets (free and commercial) is amazing. ust look at these pages:

Zebra2 is 64-bit on OS X just not in all formats. I believe the AudioUnit is 64-bit and the VST version is not (Mac people please correct me if I'm wrong).

It's never a bad time to purchase U-he products. Unlike other products where a group-buy or sale or expensive upgrade might come out just after you purchase (and YES, I understand the argument that says "If I purchase product X for Z dollars on day Y, that was the value to me even if something better comes out later"), Urs never does those types of "short term gain" sales. He prices things where he thinks they should be priced and keeps them there, offering the best support and user community around. And updates are either free or reasonably priced.
With U-he, the sooner you get in the better. You never get screwed later, and you have all that fun time with the product!

Is there any chance that this will change before Z3 comes out? I'll buy The Dark Zebra ASAP if it means I get Z3 at no additional costUrs wrote:64 bit VST3 is still coming (but we had loads of other thinsg to attend to lately).

Nothing is likely to change. If however the US Dollar crashes, or the Euro, or a plane whatsoever, we may have to think about things, but certainly not about that one.colinssx wrote:

We will announce this a bit later for two reasons: Firstly, we have no official statement about Zebra 3 yet. Secondly, we need something to report about The Dark Zebra later, bluntly put, to extend the hype

So does this imply that some extras will be added to TDZ in the future?Secondly, we need something to report about The Dark Zebra later, bluntly put, to extend the hype Embarassed

No, TDZ is a "final" product. Only bugfixes, maintenance updates.krankyone wrote:So does this imply that some extras will be added to TDZ in the future?Secondly, we need something to report about The Dark Zebra later, bluntly put, to extend the hype Embarassed

I bought both Zebra & DZ and after a quick run through the sounds I've not regretted the decision. They just sounds awesome, with great creative potential.
I've got a deadline of a documentary film tomorrow and I guess I'll add some Zebra to that.
