If hot linking to own servers count (like with the music cafe from "old days" *cough*), I'll think about joining the next challenge.

Hi all
These rules are simply so we have some structure, some people don't like it when they are left to sort it out themselves. But if you don't want to download the track from SC or upload I am sure we can make accommodate.
The "winner" is just who Geoff picks as his favourate version in the end, but it's not really winning everything, which is why I said there will be no prize (besides a well done) because it is subjective as has been said.
I will have my favourate, you will have your favourate, Geoff will have his and whoever's work he connects with. And the important thing, when I have my favourate I will be able to ask "ah, so what did you use here and how did you set it?" etc.
The purpose is just to learn a little and take a break from normal work and have some fun. And it is fun!
One more thing, please give a description of what you did when you post your version.

We could also go for someone with more credentials:
http://www.onlinemastering.dk/references.html
Trouble is we might be disappointed as ME's don't normally "enhance" things, or the differences may really not be all apparent besides volume.
I mean, listen to the audio demos on his site.

There you have my submission shared to the group.
Remember that Mastering is my weak point right now, and i'm learning too much about it. That's why i'm here
Free Mastering Tools used
-Tone Projects Basslane.
-Spline EQ. (x2)
-Variety of Sound Density MK III.
-Voxengo MSED.
-Vladg Limiter Nº6.
-Tischmeyer Technology Dynamic Range Meter.
Mastered on FL Studio 10 at -0.3 dB. 24bits, Stereo in Wav format at 512 point sync.
I will post what i did and how when i have free time during the month.
Download for better quality. Soundcloud player kills some dynamics. Don't play it from the player, it is one tip.
Maybe my mistake was the drum parts, which sounds a bit loudless than the strings.
Great track.
I will delete the track from my account when this month finish.
Have a good day

It would help us stay organized but you don't have to.cyphersuit wrote:this will be my first attempt at mastering EVER. do i need a soundcloud account to add my version to the group?
If you want just send the file to me though whatever sharing site you use and I'll upload it.

Hello,
Here is my mastering attempt:
http://www26.zippyshare.com/v/23586102/file.html
Aiynzahev, feel free to upload it to the soundcloud.
I tried to get a master with commercial loudness, so yes, I messed heavily with the dynamics.
Here are the tools I used:
DMGaudio Equality
Plug & Mix Brightness
PSP Audioware mastercomp
Meldaproduction Mstereoprocessor
Sonimus Sweetone
Stillwell Event horizon+
Fabfilter Pro-L
Voxengo Span
Any comments and/or questions are welcome!!
Best,
manducator
EDIT; I forgot to mention that I rendered to 16 bit ot have it cd-ready.

my feedback to t3toooo: for my subjective hearing you overdid it a bit. sounds a bit too much for me, especially in the highs.
i hope that helps a bit..

hi,
I just tried to do something to the track,
I've no idea if it is any kind of mastering,
as I've no idea what a real ME would do,
but it does sound different and better to my ears
I did use only freeware plugins so anyone can try to reproduce the mastering bus
I've took a picture of my mastering chain
that maybe explains a bit more what I used
click the picture for a bigger size

I can also share the reaper projekt if anyone wants

that's because i did it two times, the first one was fun but i noticed that i mastered the wrong file, maybe i'll do it again if i have time.cyphersuit wrote:my feedback to t3toooo: for my subjective hearing you overdid it a bit. sounds a bit too much for me, especially in the highs.

otherwise, there is not much you can do anyway with a stereo track, correcting some frequency's make it a bit louder.
compyfox"s statement was right after the first file i did and i don't know if i'll have the fun do do it again (a third time).
