Diva multithreading..

Does Divas now multithreading feature require a i7 processor, or Can it use 2 threads spread out over Cores in a i5 non HT processor. Lastly if only the i7 works with this mulitthreading, what sort of gains are we looking at? I've seen the figure of 30% advantage when using HT versus just one Core..
Thanks in Advance!

I'm getting my imac 3.1 Ghz i5 2011 model this weekend if all goes well. I think I will try it then.. That it's Scales almost linearily sounds nothing short of amazingUrs wrote:Scales almost linearly on i5/i7. Try it.
My host doen't have multithreading so I think I'll set it up in the VST host..

It doesn't matter if your host doesn't have multithreading. It's done within Diva herself. You'll need to look at System Monitor / Task Manager to see the real CPU consumption.TwoToneshuzz wrote:I'm getting my imac 3.1 Ghz i5 2011 model this weekend if all goes well. I remember that Rob Papen installed a multi-threaded Intel lib and plug-ins like Predator working very good also on a Core 2 Duo.
Diva doesn't work very well with this older CPUs, the resource usage is a lot higher with enabled MT.
Eventually there are different ways how to implement MT with a plug-in. Maybe this Intel compiler build plug-ins / MT support from the C/C++ runtime is working better?

Well, all VST plugins need to have multi threaded .dlls - but that doesn't mean they're distributing voices over cores.4damind wrote:I remember that Rob Papen installed a multi-threaded Intel lib and plug-ins like Predator working very good also on a Core 2 Duo.

How about a Quad Core Q6600? Would multi-threading work on my now aging cpu?

Yes it's served me quite well for years. Actually the only plugin that gave it any trouble was the early beta demo of DIVA. I haven't tried the latest demo that's supposed to be much less demanding on the CPU. If our Q6600's can take advantage of DIVA's multithreading it might be time to take a look at her again.

First report using my "new" 2011 i5 3.1 Ghz iMac. It is true that the multithreading mode works!
I'm playing the Diva in Divine mode layering 2 instances with 8 voice polyphony, with Chromaphone as well with out even breaking a sweat, sweet!
What a great instrument Diva. Just needs a modern Computer and it's all good.

I'm a dumbass.......I forgot to turn on Multi-threading......works perfectly here on the Q6600....very evenly spread out according to the task manager......
And the sound......
