It comes and goes. :-) I've never been much of a regular sleeper. Plus I like the wee hours as that's when I do my best thinking - for better or for worse. :)

And a second trailer is forthcoming....
Wait, now they have another edition of Sonar?? So there are TWO cut down versions of Sonar and, even with Sonar Producer, you still have to buy extra bits ("Expanded") to get the complete feature set? Or are they doing away with "Expanded" now that they have yet another package version at the "lower" end?

I see they're offering X2 free to anyone buying X1... That should just be a grace period but to me it seems a little desperate.
Sonar esstential is the same as Sonar home studio which has been there for awhile. My first copy of Sonar was home studio and its 1/4 of the price but has all of the core important features I needed at least. 64 audio tracks (I have never used that many in my music) full vst support a decent mixer and some again all of the core Sonar features. If it were as stable as the flag ship versions I'd just buy it but they spend even less time on those than on Producer. Studio is really just Producer with less plug ins. If you don't want all of the bundled plug ins buy Studio that is what I did.

I'm still waiting for the 2nd preview at the end of August. They list "Print Notation" as one of the X2 features. Why would they included that if there were not going to be any staff view enhancement - I'm just saying...

I bought PT MP a couple of months ago, but have not opened it / installed it yet. (I have an M-Audio interface).

And yes, I'm impressed that Acoustica managed to write a staff editor for Mixcraft. It's not perfect yet, but it keeps getting better.

hi pbognar
as i complaint to CW many times in the past , ppl dun really expect to be sth like sebilius or finale, for prinitng it to my bandmates i always expot the midi file to musescore and it does the job alright, what i basically want in snoar score is,1st the high notes can be visable, now some higher notes cant be seen and noway u can move it around, 2nd can do some basic editing like note length, easier to move the note up n down back and forth, now the so called "smart tool" even make the job harder, i have been a CW user since pro audio 8, and after almost 15 yrs, i still dun see anything really improved; as using sebilius under rewire is totally useless, it can only rewire 1 track, so how can 1 do a music scoring with full orch?sigh

I bought Cubase 6.5 artist 4 days ago. I get so much stuff done it's crazy. I won't upgrade.

They'll get you (again) next time or the time after that. It's a vicious cycle. :hihi:

Probably :)

I have to say though, that Sonar didn't fit my my workflow, so that's on me and nothing on Cakewalk. Crap post on my part, and I apologize. Quite active devs on forums and good support. Especially Brandon, cudos to you. But the nickle and diming gets to me.

And we'll see after round two :)

Yeah, that's actually pretty cool, to have a rep drop in and correct potential misinformation.

Anyway, they certainly know many of us own multiple daws already so.... many of us are only one really clever and shiny feature away from upgrading a version of something that's currently gathering dust. :hihi:

I'm almost hoping Cubase 7 doesn't get a new UI because I'd probably be somewhat tempted to upgrade from 5, just because. :)

I hope X2 does well for Cakewalk.

Any indication what overloud amps are included? The promo blurb mentions "Overloud TH2 Producer" which I assume means a somewhat different (lesser?) version of TH2. Not that I need any more amp sims but just curious....

The new UI for 6 was the thing that made me get Cubase :) The earlier versions looked like w95.

sockofgold wrote:So, as I mentioned in the beginning of this thread, I demoed X1 last night to see what it was all about, and the main thing that struck me was the gigantic GUI. Everything is freaking huge! It seems like a serious waste of screen space.
What kind of screen resolution were you running? SONAR is really designed to run at 1080p.
1080p is indeed what I am using (2 monitors), and I still found everything unbearably huge. I mean, the dual-track inspector takes up probably 1/5 of the screen's horizontal real estate.

The control panel bar (not sure what Sonar calls it, but I think you know what I mean) is also freakishly huge. I would say it is about 2-3 times as tall as comparable control bars in other DAWS (Cubase, S1, Logic, etc.).

Honestly, I kind of assumed everything was huge to make it usable with touch-screens. I am not a huge GUI snob, but Sonar just seems really really inefficient in the way it is designed. GUI elements just don't need to be that large! :)

Anyway, nice to see someone from Cakewalk here to stand up against the haters (myself included). I honestly kind of thought you guys stopped caring once you got picked up by Roland. I have always wanted to like Sonar, but have never really been able to click with it, for various reasons.
