Nomad Factory Magma released.

I haven't heard any Guitar Rig or Amplitube comparisons from those who have used it. How does it compare? If you've got either of those packages, would you still buy Magma?

tbh it doesn't interest me at all. They boast 65 modules but really they have gone for stretching out the number by using things like a module per filter type and a lot of simple basic effects that could and should probably be combined modules.

Well I have the demo and it definitely beats Guitar Rig in my opinion, at least for general effects. It has a really warm sound to it where Guitart Rig seems thing and digital to me. But I am definitely no expert, maybe I am just not using Guitar Rig to its fullest..

I don't think I would buy Magma for the asking price, which is $179, but for $100 to $125 I would be interested. But I also have Line6's PodFarm which has a lot of decent effects and I'm sort of torn between just using that (upgrading to V2 so I can use without JBridge) or getting Magma eventually. But I am wondering what else is out there that does the job of consolidating GUIS and effects, which is the biggest draw for me.

I didn't bother with this release from NF 'cause I have GR5 and I still have Nigel from UAD both of which I love. I've had or tried all the Nomad stuff and eventually dropped it all. There is just that something lacking or off that didn't ever quite nail it for me with their stuff. Always a case of close but no cigar, sounds like an 'emulation of an emulation' is the way I like to put it. Albeit pretty looking 'emulations of emulations' but then I guess the look is all part of the hype with these plugins. My advice is skip this and get a UAD card or any of the above which have plenty of fairly convincing gear available. The other thing I didn't like about these plugins is they have a highly restrictive "4 STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT" authorisation process which leaves you hanging mid air on that deadline when you need to swap out a broken machine...just what you need! Now I only support developers who provide access to serials and authos 24/7-365 days a year. The support staff aren't too hot with this company either, they seem to have an over estimated opinion of
themselves and their product but not much of a clue about what their users need. Pass.

I ended up buying Amplitube and T-rackS, those along with freebies are doing it for me. I liked the sound from Magma, what really did it in for me it it just wasn't fun to look through and patch up the effects. The menu-based system was basically not a drag (and drop). I still may get it when I find it cheap, just the retail price right now vs. other alternatives coupled with its usability just didn't keep me interested long enough.
