Well I'm friends with U-He, and I used to work at FXpansion, but I don't think FXpansion themselves talk musch DSP with H-He, but perhaps Urs or FXpansion can fill in the details here. In the audio industry most small independent devs are friends since the industry is so small and we always bump into each other, but discussing DSP algorithms in more detail is not as common.V0RT3X wrote:This is incredible! Its great to know that
my top 3 music software Developers (Uhe, Fxpansion, Cytomic) are all comrades.
Keep up the super work guys!
Cheers,
In addition I'm very close friends with Magnus Lidstrom of Sonic Charge, and have been discussing DSP with him and talking about ideas since before I even met Urs. Magnus and I also swap Mathematica notebooks on certain topics. I'm also good friends with Antti Huovilainen, who is very good with understanding analog circuits as well as DSP, although he is now working outside the plugin industry at the moment.
edit: I'm also friends with Sean from Valhalla, although we don't talk much DSP, mainly framework stuff since we both use "Juce" for handling mouse / drawing / operating system abstraction / plugin format wrapping.

I always check out other peoples interesting plugins and see if I like any of the ideas in them and use them in my own designs, so this is always happening. For example the "Trans Mod" modulation system I designed for FXpansion was actually an extension to the "Morph Groups" feature of the Nord modular, as well as the ghosted modulation fader of the Surge synths by Vember Audio. I extended it by allowing full polyphonic operation on all "Mod Slots" as well as adding a polyphonic scaling source as well to each mod slot.4damind wrote:Time comes closer for a common projectA synth with ideas from U-He and Cytomic

The cockles of my nerdy heart have been thoroughly warmed.
It's great to know that this kind of cooperation is happening between such highly skilled/talented folks.

I've been working with Andy's code this week, and have nothing but good things to say about the guy as a fellow developer. VERY helpful, especially w/the Juce issues that plugin developers run into. Plus, Andy has been open with regards to some of his filter work, and posted a nice doc to the web about digital SVFs. I just hope to be able to return the favor someday.andy_cytomic wrote: I'm also friends with Sean from Valhalla, although we don't talk much DSP, mainly framework stuff since we both use "Juce" for handling mouse / drawing / operating system abstraction / plugin format wrapping.
Urs has always been very helpful to other developers, as a quick browse of the KVR Developer's forum will show. I recall some useful discussions with Urs about optimized soft nonlinearities in SIMD, and about SSE2 programming in general. I need to get Diva, if for no other reason than to have a portable solution to create demos of my plugins. I have a Moog Rogue I can use for demos, and am thinking about getting a Minitaur, but the Diva sounds so close to these Moog filters that it is scary.
It is really cool to see photos of developers collaborating on things. And to see a beautiful blue SH-101 being put to the test.

Well unprecedented collaboration between humanity is the way of the future, this is just the audio world. And it's a beautiful thing to see.
If one were to remove money from the equation, everyone would collaborate with everyone. Just like the old days.

except for that weird one who always wants to sell the info of all his clients for weird stuff that makes no sense.
none of the developers here are like that though

Are we sure this wasn't a cartel meeting, where Andy gave Urs some awesome dynamics code in order to keep him busy, thus winning some time to market The Drop before U-he releases an effect version of Diva's filters? The plugin competition authority is watching closely.
@Sean: what, you don't have Diva yet?
You simply *must*. Promise me that the money I'll be sending over shortly for your plugins will be earmarked for a Diva purchase, will you? It is an obligatory purchase even disregarding all her fine Moog modules - all of the Moogs in the world still don't get that classic Alpha hoover sound just right, for example.

I bought Diva earlier this morning, so no pressure on you to buy my stuff so that I buy Diva!Ch00rD wrote:)
