I know I know Studio One much better, but I don't think it is because of that that I find it more immediate and intuitive. I think if I were making mostly electronic music, dance music, then Mulab would be fine, but it seems primitive in many ways, not just simple.
I agree, audio seems a bit of a second-class citizen in MuLab. I don't use many samples or loops, so the groove stuff isn't too much of an issue for me. Lack of auto crossfade, punch-in/out recording modes and more intuitive control over monitoring / record states are the features I miss.

There's enough great stuff in other aspects of the program that I still use it as my main host though.

Re. the non-UL version changes, I think replacing the VST-database limits with session limits was a wise move. Having the limit in the database forces users into an annoying, repetitive and non-musical housekeeping activity (adding and removing plugins from the database). Having the limit per session causes them no extra hassle other than having to think about what plugins are most important.

And the VST limit replacement is a good thing for everyone, while preserving a good balance between Free - XT - UL.
And the shortcuts limit was only complicating things.

Green light for me :) But still curious for your opinions.
:tu: In the past the "Free" version with THIS functionality was a unique feature of MuLab, I think. With the new limits I guess MuLab will keep this standing.

I'm a bit puzzled: Where is version 4.4(.2)?
Can't find it neither in http://www.mutools.com/mulab-downloads.html nor at http://www.mutools.com/mulab/cedar/.

M4.4.2 will be there soon. I uploaded it yesterday but noticed something in the last test step, so removed it again.

Thanks to all for your FRs about MuLab. Interesting things. Some were already on the WL, some others are added.

Does the Mac version need to be re-written to fix some of these bugs? Or will it be a moving target with the new system(s). I'm still trying to figure out if it's my hardware/system combination or just OSX? Would be nice to know...

Some MuLab OSX users already reported here that there MIDI is working fine. Atoh i also know that you're not alone with that OSX MIDI input issue. I did already investigate that issue some time ago up to the deepest level and could not find a reason inside MuLab. I could only conclude that OSX is doing strange things. In a broader context it may be an internal incompatibility thing in OSX between Carbon and Cocoa? It's the plan to R&D a new OSX abstraction layer based on Cocoa during M5 R&D. Hopefully this will fix a couple of OSX quirks.

By the way: About the sequence browser location prob: Can you please make a little screencast of that so i can see what's happening? I asked this some time ago but i assume you missed that post.

Hmmm... No one so far has posted that their usb midi keyboard is starting up/active when launching MuLab V4 in OSX unless I missed that. One person said their midi interface was working with a connected hardware synthesizer on startup... I did see that.

Also the sequencer location problem apparently is a matter of clicking more accurately? I have been able to copy and paste sections in the arrange but it requires careful placement and or the manual repositioning. How does one merge sessions anyway? I'm a little confused about what multiple sessions are good for if I can't see them at the same time and or copy from one to the other?

I thought there were others, but can't remember when exactly.
I also confirm it's working ok here on my OSX machine.

Oh, you mean the difference between USB and MIDI?
I can tell you that that is completely transparant towards any music app.
There is no such difference on app side. If that would indeed make a difference, then it's at the same time prove that it's somthing in OSX itself.

I thought you were talking about loading/saving separate sequences?
Do we have a big misunderstanding here?
I have been able to copy and paste sections in the arrange but it requires careful placement and or the manual repositioning.
It depends on your grid. The finer the grid, the more accurate you must work, or zoom in more. That's logical, i think.
How does one merge sessions anyway?
Using copy-paste. Or arrange the session windows so you see them both and drag-drop parts and modules.

  • REPLACED the "VST plug-ins in database" limit by the "Num VSTs per session" limit.
That makes it a much more viable tool now.

Thanks!

He was using a midi interface to connect an external synth to his audio interface. I'm using a midi kybd. connected to my computer through usb and core audio/midi. The keyboard shows up in MuLabs midi setup of course, but does not "start" when the MuLab app is launched. Which would not be as perplexing, but the same keyboard works with all other stand-alone apps I have.

Now I remember what the problem was... the last saved location doesn't work either. i.e. when I go to load the sequence from the browser, it defaults to some random location I never set? I have to keep switching to favorites.

Sigh...

MIDI or USB makes no difference to a music app. OSX abstracts that internally.

That's so weird :?

I double-checked that and can't see anything wrong.
Please make a screen movie of that and send it to me.
