Starting to think I need Diva, but I haven't even got Zebra yet!

I bought Diva first. Still haven't bought Zebra- Diva realy is a different animal, great sound and easy to program, lovely GUI...Zebra is a different animal, more of an all rounder, deeper, but not as simple and pure as Diva IMHO- I'm quite happy with reactor, alchemy etc etc. for the stuff that Zebra excells at, but nothing else is quite as good as Diva at the moment for pure VA and (more importantly) putting a smile on your face. buy it!andrew71 wrote:Starting to think I need Diva, but I haven't even got Zebra yet!

I like Sound-On-Sound and Future Music much better, though I saw a somewhat short review of Diva in a Recording magazine in a book store yesterday.

lol, When the Korg rompler/sampling keyboards came out in the late 80s, the detailed reviews were better than the japenglish manual.himalaya wrote:{trivia mode}kontakt1968 wrote:Yes a 4 page reviews big for a softsynth in SOS.
They used to split reviews across 2 issues.![]()
I remember the Yamaha SY77 review which was that long and specific..those were the days...no internet, but SOS with reviews that would be read over and over and over (at least by me![]()
).
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

True, true.
Also, The Keyboard magazine (US) was superb when it came to detailed reviews. They really knew how to write in-depth reports. But that was way back. Not sure how it is now as I've stopped reading it (my local WH.Smith does not stock it anymore).
Anyway, I read the review now and it is very good (we're all waiting for that arpeggiator, Urs!
)
Random quote from the review (if I may):
"Diva has something I've long desired. No, Not Natalie Portman's phone number..."

I like Sound-On-Sound and Future Music better, but for only $12US/year, Keyboard magazine is definitely worth it. Here is the Keyboard review of Diva:

-One thing would make me happier: if the sound demo was:
"Diva Ice Cool Demo" from Arksun.

The last part of the first review is cut off. Can anyone mention what the conclusions and alternatives were in the article?

The full article is quite long - one needs to buy the issue or the article. The conclusion is on par with SOS making it a top news items for the issueaudiojunkie wrote:The last part of the first review is cut off. Can anyone mention what the conclusions and alternatives were in the article?

congrats on the nice review, i hope to read it tomorrow if i get the chance.
slightly off topic but i've been hunting for an affordable used 8-core westmere mac pro to replace my decrepit 2006 imac. specifically to run more instances of diva and my other top-tier but hungry plugins. westmere is the chip to go for if possible, right ?

We have 2010 Hexacore, an early 2007 8-core (first gen) and a 2012 12 core. The first gen 8-core doesn't handle Diva well, the Hexacore scales perfectly and the 12-core barely notices Diva. I'd definately go for the architecture used in the 6/12 cores. If all 8-cores are before that, I'd rather go for a Hexacore, also because it's got that turbo boost to 3.6 GHz or so.

brilliant, thanks for the feedback. it helps.
clovertown is older if i'm not mistaken. i think there's two 2010 models. mid 2010 seems to be "nehelem" {spelling?} and then later in 2010, around november, i think apple upgraded the chips to westmere. i haven't been following developments after that time frame as i couldn't afford a mac newer than that. i'm aiming for 8 core 2.4ghz as it's the cheapest model from 2010 with two processing trays - which will be nice for upgrading the cpu chips at some point.
when you say "architecture", what does that mean ?
